Dear Sir,

Your lawyer's attempt to dispute the record of the proceedings during Monday's session before Judge Belinda Ang (12 May 2008) is a very serious matter.

The dispute is over whether Judge Belinda Ang has agreed that "there will be latitude" given to the defendants to cross-examine you and Mr Lee Hsien Loong during the hearing for the assessment of damages.

It was our fear of such disputes that we wanted the preliminary applications to be heard in open court. Your counsel, however, objected to this. Now he is contesting that the Judge has agreed to allow us the latitude to cross-examine you in the witness box.

In order to avoid such further disputes, we are applying to the courts to have the hearing on 22 May 2008 to stike out our AEICs held in open court where the public and media can attend, and where arguments and proceedings can be audio-digitally recorded.

May I remind you of your own words in an interview you gave to Time magazine in 2005: "If you defame us, we're prepared to sue you, go into the witness box and be cross-examined. You can brief the best lawyers and demolish us. If I'm involved, I go to the witness box. And you can question me, not only on the particular defamatory issue, but all issues in my life."

It seems strange then that your lawyer should be so concerned that we would have latitude to cross-examine you. This may explain why your actions don't seem to match your words. Here's why:

First, you went for summary judgment in your suit with Mr Goh Chok Tong against me in 2001 so that the case did not go to trial and you did not take the stand.

Second, you went for summary judgment again in the present suit thus avoiding going to the witness box yet again.

Third, you now want to strike out our AEICs for the hearing to assess damages and you oppose this hearing to be held in open court where the public can hear and see for themselves all the arguments in play.

Finally your lawyer objects, outside court, to the fact that there will be latitude for us to cross-examine you and your son.

You must admit that all these steps taken by you and your lawyer leaves the impression that you are anxious to avoid an open and full cross-examination in court. To eradicate such an impression please do not place any more obstacles in our effort to fully and comprehensively cross-examine you.

You can do this by instructing Mr Singh to, one, support our application to have the 22 May hearing conducted in open court (at the very least, he should not oppose it) and, two, to clearly tell Judge Ang that we should have full latitude to question you because you are more than capable of handling the questions while in the witness box.

Anything less, and your words "If I'm involved, I go to the witness box. And you can question me, not only on the particular defamatory issue, but all issues in my life" will be the source of much derision.

We, the defendants, and the Singaporean public await your response.

Sincerely,

Chee Soon Juan
Secretary-General

Suit No. 262 of 2006 Q

Dear Sirs,

1. We refer to your e-mail dated 14 May 2008.

2. The learned Judge did not say that there will be latitude to cross examine.

3. Your application for an open court hearing was unsuccessful. We will oppose any attempt to revisit it.

If Lee Kuan Yew will not even do what he had claimed he will do in that interview (taking the witness stand), shouldn't this Summary Judgment be declare null and void due to the ground that a man who does not keep his own words have not much of a reputation to speak of in the 1st place.

How do you defamed a man with such questionable reputation then?

Perhaps now he regrets giving that interview.

CNA news just out that Mrs LKY had a brain haemorrhage (stroke) and is now warded at TTS hospital. Looks like the 22May hearing will be further pponed.....

He's a coward. Period

I admire Lee Kuan Yew.

He is so despised in Singapore and his name is so black in foreign countries that he still tries to defend his reputation.

Futile effort, yes, but Lee Kuan Yew still has the fighting spirit to crush his opponents.

How can they even consider to have the date postpone at all? Chee Soon Juan's lawyer was sicked and they had refused to postpone the date then, what's more this is Lee Kuan Yew's personal matter and it should not have any influence on court proceedings.

Beside, based on the minutes taken place in her chamber earlier, Belinda Ang and the Singh lawyer appeared to be speculating that Chee Soon Juan is trying to play delay tactics, will she draw this same conclusion on Lee Kuan Yew as well?

Belinda Ang, please be fair in this case. Do not apply double standard.

Alternatively, Lee Kuan Yew should consider dropping this case against Chee Soon Juan. You reap what you sowed and you might just be able to redeem yourself and do some good for your wife.

At the High Court on Monday, there was so much hype about Lee Hsien Loong turning up to be cross-examined. But late in the afternoon of that day, the judge decided to adjourn hearing to 22 May after receiving a note from unknown source.

According to a CNA report today it was on Monday that Mrs Lee Kuan Yew was taken to hospital in serious condition after suffering a stroke.

Yup she was sent to hospital on Monday. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/347991/1/.html

Mr Seebeng's last para refers. Yes indeed, the jigsaw pieces are now fitting in. The sudden serious stroke of Mrs LKY on monday (news of which was only released on thurs night) must have been the reason Judge Ang was suddenly called to take an urgent call in her private room (to delay and postpone the hearing to a later date). But why the ruse of a "security interference" and ordering the shut-off of all cellphones which had already been silenced? So drama mama one and insulting our intelligence!
Attach all the way  -     Thu, 15 May 2008 4:22 pm
The virtue of Wing Chung Kung Fu is that if the opponent is injured, keep attacking his weak and injured part.

Now LKY's wife is dying, he and his dragon son are in depression and weak in spirit, so keep attacking them.

Get them to appear in open court. Fix the date and funeral service no excuse for not attending court as witnesses.

Just like the Lee's lawyer said even Dr. Chee is in jail he must attend the court proceeding. And last yr Dr. Chee was not allowed to visit his sick father-in-law.

So Dr. Chee give them back their own medicine. Show no mercy.

Now is the time. Opportunity does not twice. Keep pressing for the open court hearing.

Get FEER to do the same. Involve the international legal circle to press for open court.

Get the Singapore Human Rights, the Gays, Burmese and the Fulong Kung to stage whatever protests they can think off this week-ends or next week-ends.

Organize a "Catch Mas Slamat" protest..for the security of all Singaporeans.

Stage wild cat protests in all Orchard Road, Parliament, Tao Payoh, Ang Moi Kio etc...go in team of 3s this Sat and Sun.

In the Chinese Tsu Tou war, when the enemy is angry, make them more angry. When their camp is on fire, set more fire. You get the point.

Don't worry about hitting them below the belt...it's their own medicine after all.

Go all out now!!!!!

Ah Choo has nothing to do with this court case.

People should not be taken away by this piece of family news and postpone the date. Old people get sick and die--it is a norm.

DR Chee and friends should continue pressing for an open-court fight. This case concerns the future of singapore, and the future of our local generations to come.

I tell you what, people in the streets are betting when Ah Choo would go up the lorry. I can sense the humogous hatred among the local lot.

Ah yew and son should show their courage to fight DR Chee.

Dear readers,

We are aware of the anger many Singaporeans have towards Mr Lee Kuan Yew and his family for what they have done to the people and the opposition in Singapore.

However, we ask that you refrain from personal attacks against Mrs Lee Kuan Yew who has taken ill.

We do not wish to sink to the level of Mr Lee Kuan Yew who has victimised not only his opponents but our families as well.

Whenever he detains an opposition leader or makes his opponent a bankrupt, he punishes the victim's entire family.

We believe justice will be done one day. But it will not be done by unkindly attacks on Mrs Lee.
AleeBaba  -  LKY dun have the BALLS! He is a COWARD!    Thu, 15 May 2008 7:20 pm
LKY is a COWARD hiding behind the Kangaroo Court.

Listen to what Said Zahari and Dr. Lim Hock Siew have said. Tribute to them for the years of suffering under ISA detention.

If LKY want to proof Said Zahari wrong he should fight in open court to be cross examined as he have said as above.

Show us you are not a COWARD!
