Singapore Democrats

While they dine on fish flown fresh from Japan...

...what do you think these people eat?

And while Lee Hsien Loong pays himself more than $10,000 a day, these folks don't know where their next meal is going to come from.

Then he raises the GST, makes water & electricity more expensive, increases healthcare costs, and raked in $6 billion in taxes and revenue last year.

The Government opens the floodgates and indiscriminately lets in cheap foreign labour to suppress local wages, using the vulnerable to make the vulnerable even more vulnerable.

And while we are, by far, the highest savers in the world we end up with little or no savings for our retirement. Where did all our CPF money go?

Poverty in a country where ministers demand million-dollar salaries sickens the soul. And while Lee Kuan Yew's daughter-in-law, Ho Ching, loses billions of dollars of our money in investments overseas and is never held accountable, life for these people grind on in misery.

Many people ask why God allows such injustice to take place. Don't blame God. He didn't allow this. We did. We allowed the PAP to strike fear into our hearts and greed into our minds.

But we also have the power to change things. We have the power to stop the Singapore Shame. We have the power that we don't yet realise.

We need to discover that power. We need to overcome our fear of the PAP and find the courage to step forward and speak up.

This was once the land of dreams
Now these dreams have turned to greed
In the midst of all this wealth
The poor are left to help themselves
Capitalist's democracy
No one said that freedom's free
Humanity rots away
No truth, No justice... The Singaporean Way!

It's heart breaking to see pictures of old people suffering. They are the one who sacrificed the most during early part of nation building, for example speaking mandarin campaign deprived their entertainment rights and effective communication with their grandchildren. Now the country has progressed yet they are the victims of corporation and politician greeds. Their sacrifices went in vain.

I think it is poor taste to have a picture of the Lee family having dinner. To the chinese, having dinners is a very sacred thing and therefore they should be left alone.

The old lady is a generation that is passing, a generation that brought about modern day Singapore. Self reliant, frugal and hardworking. I think she would not want to stay in one of the homes because of her dignity and beliefs. We should check whether there are enough homes for such people who do not have children to support them.
My mother has dementia and old, and I am glad that she is in the Apex Harmony Homes for the aged run with State assistance.
So please do not try to present a wrong impression of Singapoe.

Of course I hope the Government can create more infrastructure to cater to the old such as buying up cheaper land overseas to build retirement homes etc

About leaving them alone for dinner, PLS take a look at the logo at the top right hand corner. its the U channel logo which means they were aired on tv.

Also, with regards to the your post, I believe they are words of pure ignorance.
Firstly, How would you know that they are not seeking help and would not want to stay in homes. A recent documentary aired on TV about aged picking up cans and cardboards revealed that many aged applied for finanical assistance but were not granted.
Also, fyi, Singapore's state assistance is relatively low compared to other developed countries.

You may go take a look on the budget 08 to see how little is allocated to helping these pple.

WTF, OMG, ur thinking of exiling them. How ingenious.
You got a great future in this country mate.
Anonymous  -     Wed, 04 Jun 2008 11:07 am
I am shocked by your interpretation of what I typed cus I dun see in any way how you can come up with the idea of exiling them just becus I said that other countries offer btr assistance.

Instead of thinking of possible solutions to better the situation, you just think of the most convenient and irrational solution to exile them which is akin to you digging a hole and burying your head in the sand like an ostrich.

Also, the problem is not with the government not creating enough infrastructure. If you read carefully I said that these old people are not granted assistance by the government.

Apart from the horrible situations our seniors who toiled themselves to where Singapore is today, and it would be nice to show the whole world, how Malay, Indian or anyone of mixed parentage that are sitting on the side walk or foraging thru rubbish dumps or chutes to find something to eat or grab on to anything that they might make money out of it. This is totally insane for  Ahpek Jahat to shut the whole world from taking a peek to the real thing in Singapore.

I Don't Know Why I remind of NKF when seeing related stuff, about current democracy groups.

NKF was a microcosm of Singapore. It was to TT what Singapore is to LEEsons.

His only sin was to have mistakenly thought that his NKF was the biggest microcosm among the many microcosms that exist in many fiefdoms of public office, that he was bigger than Lim Kim San's baby.

His saving grace - landing him a light sentence in the end - was that he built up a nice little pile in reserves, $260m - now, not even the other fiefdom lords in the ministries can do that or even anywhere close to that, can they?

In this little piece of rotten land under these greedy Hakkas, one thing and only one thing matters:
"Can you make money, lots of money, for us, boy? No problem? Really? Ok, promote you! National Awards later, ok, boy?"

Seriously, I don't see how any of you can run the country any better.

Yea, everyone here says, "Voice out, young people! Do the right thing!"

What will you do if you take over the country? Provide much more state assistance? Don't forget, british income tax was as high as 90% just to support the state healthcare assistance.

Maybe you should all go out and do the right thing, i.e. go do some volunteer work, help the elderly yourself. Rather than sitting at home, eating your chips, grumbling about how the nation is ran, where all your money went into someone else's pockets. I know the list goes on, because some people will never be satisfied with their life that they have.

And one last note. Seriously, if you are that unhappy, just move out of this country. There are many people who appreciates what this country has given them, and there are obviously much not mentioned about the poverty and problems faced by their countries. We can never possibly piece all the best parts of many countries into one, because that is not how a country is ran.

Don't say that you are saving the nation by staying and voicing out opinions, which usually has no substantial impact. If Mr Chiam See Tong can do it so well, I don't see why you can't. =)
