Following our letter to Yes, we know that from the Media Development authority (MDA) officials who have been repeating that line for the past three months. What we really want to know is the outcome of that process which is already three months overdue. Dr Chee Soon Juan called up Mrs Hang and spoke to her assistant Pat, who said that the press secretary was at a meeting. He left word for Mrs Hang to return the call. She didn't.

When Dr Chee called again a day later (this morning), Pat said that Mrs Hang was at another meeting. She told Dr Chee to call Mr A R Madiee at the MDA as he "has been given the info".

"What info?" Dr Chee was skeptical.

"Just contact him and he will have more info for you on the matter," Pat promised.

And so Dr Chee called Mr Madiee.

"Can I call you by the end of the day?" Mr Madiee stammered.

"I spoke with Mrs Julian Hang's assistant and she said that you could give me more information. Why don't you tell me whatever information you have now that we're on the phone?" Dr Chee said.

"I can't. I need to call you back."

"Why? Don't you have the information?"

"No, I don't. I have to call you back. I'll do it by the end of today, I promise."

Dr Chee immediately called Pat again: "Pat, I just spoke with Mr Madiee, he says he doesn't have the 'info'."

"Oh," Pat replied, followed by a pregnant pause.

"Why did you ask me to call Mr Madiee for whatever information when he wasn't given them?" Dr Chee enquired.

"I was just given the instructions by Mrs Hang to ask you to call Mr Madiee. I'll relay the message to her," the assistant assured.

"Why don't you ask Mrs Hang to talk to me directly instead of going through you."

"She's at a meeting and I think its going to be a lengthy one," Pat attempted.

"She's going to have to take a break at some point. When she does, tell her to call me," Dr Chee pressed. "It won't take more than a couple of minutes. I just need a simple answer as to whether our application has been approved or not."

"Yes, Dr Chee, I will let her know. I understand your frustration."

"Please ask her to call me directly instead of playing silly games like this was some sort of top secret spy ring. I just want a straightforward answer to a simple straightforward application. Just a yes or no will do," Dr Chee insisted.

"Yes, I will relay the message."

Stay tuned for the continuing buffoonery.

MICA's reply to SDP

Dear Mr Chee,

The application by the Singapore Democratic Party (‘SDP’) for the renewal of the newspaper permit for ‘The New Democrat’ is being processed.  We will get back to you on the outcome in due course.

Mrs Julia Hang
Press Secretary to Acting Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts

  • BryanT - Laws Breakers Should NOT Expect Equal Treatment
On 26 Jul, CSJ wrote to the Acting Minister for MICA to urge him to reply within three days of to his letter, failing which SDP will “take the necessary remedies that are open to (it)”.

I commented then that “without clearly spelling out what those onerous remedies possibly are, the minister is unlikely to be persuaded to act.”

“Others would likely assume that its most potent weapon is a puff of hot-air!”

Now, more than three days have passed.

Indeed there has been a response: the Press Secretary to Acting Minister has simply repeated what it has been doing for more than three months - "wait!"

Again we hear the oft repeated line: “The application for the renewal of the newspaper permit is being processed and the ministry will get back to on the outcome in due course.”

And what has CSJ to show for the threat of “necessary remedy” that he menacingly posed to the minister?..... a bloodcurdling and browbeating series of pleading and forlorn phonecalls.

Is the “necessary remedy” we have been holding our breath for?.... a puff of rancid air, via the telephone at that?

In case he has not realised, CSJ has just been given a good dose of the old civil-service runaround game. And all he can do is to huff and puff around looking desperately for someone to take him seriously.

    What a sorry sight!

My advice to CSJ is this: if CSJ does not have respect for the system, he should not expect any respect from it as well.

If he thinks that the rules/laws are for him and his coterie to break and abuse for his various antics and theatric, then he should not expect equal and fair treatment under these.

Try not to be too impervious. CSJ should start figuring why we have not heard of other Opposition parties having problems renewing the licence for their newsletters.
  • floatingzen - MDA is NOT a political service
Like it or not, MDA is a civil servant, not a political servant. The time taken for MDA to reply to a request for a PAP newsletter should be the same for opposition parties - SDP or otherwise.

Not a double standard please, not while you are a civil servant paid by the average taxpayers - stay apolitical and do your job.

In the meantime, BryanT, there are many other social injustices out there. Go try to unwind them given the 'intelligence and time' that you have.
  • Political_law - Get a life, Chee.
You can't win the PAP. In the eyes of LKY, you are a 'knock-out'. Don't try to gain sympathy here and make a fool of yourself. Resign.
  • Ted
yeah right retard lky is gonna live forever. just like the chinese used to believed that the mighty ching dynasty was going to rule china forever, blah blah blah

Good job Dr Chee, I support you from the bottom of my heart. Cheers!

How appropriate that I should be posting this response to BryanT to be filed under the topic of buffoonery. The psychopath now claims, "My advice to CSJ is this: if CSJ does not have respect for the system, he should not expect any respect from it as well."

Well, I've got news for all who are as soft in their heads as he is. This is The System:

    1. You apply for a licence to sell - or is that "hawk" - your party newspaper understanding that the longstanding practise is for the application to be completely processed in two to three weeks.

    2. As a party that believes in the rule of law, the SDP understands that the procedure of prcessing the application is meant to conform to the "equal treatment" guaranteed under the constitution; that is The System.

    3. The homophobic Christian Taliban homophobic, Lui Tuck Yew, surreptitiously attempts stalling tactics contrary to the procedural fairness that his ruling party claims it practises, the logical consequence of the rule of law; no doubt, he is under instruction by the cabinet he is a member of. Christian Taliban Lui clearly is disdainful of The System and clearly has NO RESPECT for it.

    4. The SDP seeks redress, and that is the point in this saga that we are at. Any properly functioning System would have a means to seek recourse.

Clearly, the BryanTs of Singapore are similarly unrespecting of The System but will deviously try to distract any attention to it by instead projecting that blame on to the SDP in general, and Dr Chee in particular.

We'll see who gets the respect in the final analysis.
  • leesjuanpat - The Baboon playing Tai Chi with his press secretar
Well, well the art of Tai Chi is a graceful exercise of 'to and fro'. A clear cut case of unreasonable delay of the magazine licence. SDP may not be issued one. Politically motivated to retard the movements of news from SDP to the masses by their publication.

Unfortunately, the baboon played the Tai Chi too long with his P. secretary, MDA and even involving assistant Pat... Not me har! I am Patrick. Must be direction from above because baboon will not buffoon, knowing too well he is a natural buffoon baboon.

Please give us a break, we really feel that photo should not be put up for posterity.
  • maxchew
The above accompanying picture of the Minister in question, Lui Tuck Yew, is most fitting.....what a buffoon with goofy-teeth to boot, leading the buffoonery at MICA. No wonder Dr CSJ is being made to run around in circles. First world? More like 3rd World...
  • quantum - Nuremberg
Richard Sonnenfeldt, Chief Interpreter, Nuremberg Trials -
"I made a discovery, all my by myself, and the discovery was, that in order to serve a dictator for years, you have to be someone, who has no integrity, who has no pride, who has no conscience, who has no ideas of humanity above his own. You have to be a yes-man, who does everything for material gain or rank. So the discovery that these Nazis, who had been blown up into hugh monsters, were such ordinary people, with no experience of the outside world, and no morals, was the greatest shock to me in Nuremberg."
  • Dick - Arbeit macht frei
"Work will set you free" Old fart ask us to work till we die.

These words are the main gate of the concentration came in Auschwitz.

I agree with quantum, Nazis have many bright and intelligent people working for a dictator.

Intelligence and Bright do not always equal to someone with humanity, compassion, integrity and honor.

Just look at what our famous RI produce and you will understand.
  • joanna - Record these phone conversations
It will definitely prove your point if you record these phone conversations :)
  • AhKow - BryanT -- classic logic
BryanT says: "My advice to CSJ is this: if CSJ does not have respect for the system, he should not expect any respect from it as well."

Hmm, the NSP is most respectful of the "system" somehow were not respected the "system".

So going by BryanT's logic the NSP should also "disrespect" the "system"?
