PAP's constituency plans a political gimmick Print Email

PAP's plans for the different constituencies island wide are a political gimmick because they are passing off national infrastructural projects and private developments as municipal plans exclusive to PAP wards.

The PAP team in Sembawang has announced a $500 million renewal plan for Sembawang GRC just days before the elections.

The SDP would like to ask PAP's Sembawang GRC team how they came up with this sum of $500 million. Where does this $500 million come from and what is the breakdown? Who or which agency is contributing to this $500 million? I am sure the residents of Sembawang and the Singapore public as a whole would like to know.

We would also like to point out that public housing and infrastructure projects are part of the continuing plans of national agencies. In the case of Sembawang's 5500 new housing units, who is building them? The town council? Based on media reports, these 5500 units also include private housing units. How did this become part of the PAP Sembawang GRC team renewal plan? Is the PAP now a private housing developer?

Plans for kindergartens and nursing care facilities have also been announced. Who are providing these services? The Town Council? Kindergartens in PAP wards are largely a monopoly of the PAP Community Foundation; care facilities are provided by voluntary organizations. Where are the details of these initiatives?

Certain types of upgrading plans for HDB require co-payment by residents. What are the details of this upgrading programme announced by the PAP?

Voters need to scrutinize these so-called PAP constituency plans. They will see that they are not original but a mish-mash of national and private projects integrated and passed off as a PAP exclusive constituency plans. PAP constituency plans are nothing more than a political gimmick.

PAP's Sembawang GRC team had five years to put forward a development plan for Sembawang but they did not do so. Now one seems to have suddenly appeared so close to the elections that it has has been publicly announced a mere 96 hours before nomination day.

This is not how you look after your community's needs by passing of national and private project and developments as an exclusive constituency plan. The residents of Sembawang need to have a more detailed explanation of this “renewal” plan. They need to see through PAP's political gimmicks.

We are so stress in Woodlands to see so many foreigners and their family instead of they the PAP Sembawang solved this problem. They wanted to upgrade again in Woodlands. I don't see the point at all. We were fine along during Tony Tan era eventhough Woodlands looks like a slum and a forgotten town compared to other areas in Singapore. But we are like living in kampung. Chinese kids will play with Malays kids and Indians. You can see Chinese talking in Malay and respecting one another. No problem at all. Peace and quiet. And then when SDP wanted to contest here PAP panic, all these money wasting projects come in. Now Woodlands is so crowded that it is HOT!!!! Our buses are full of filipinos and their families. So noisy and rude are these filipinos. They talked so loudly until the whole bus is their playground. Woodlands is now a mini Manila thanks to kwah and his PAP team. Please solved this problem SDP.

    American Style Politics:
Pork and Barrel Politics, your estate will turn into a shanty town or become an upmarket district
    British Style Politics:
Sweetner, have they sweeten they ground yet???
    Growth and Shares, more handouts

    1st Question:
Facilities Upgrading Spending or Wasteful Spending???

    2nd Question:
How is our S'porean Taxpayers money put to good use???

    3rd Question:
Each time they do re-districting the bounderies, they build new community centres, polyclinics, kindgartens all these are available next sectors few bus stops away. How many Community Centres you need???

Mr Khaw (Religon is a no go area)
The Serparation of Church and State
Let qoute what MM Lee said:"Religon is a sentitive issue, it will create riot, mayhem and social disturbances. Drop your Buddhist Chauvinistic Behavior, this is dangerous Politics you are entering

Mr Vivian (do not discrimminate LGBT people)
Respect an invdidual choice of his or her sexual preference. Never belittle a person sexual orientation. This is cheap shot, don't punch under belt, have S'pore Politics sink too new lows.

  • solido - Wrong tactic SDP
SDP will be barking up the wrong tree if it wonders where the money come from ? You think the people care so long as they don't have to pay for it?

Its obvious to everyone in Singapore that the Opposition parties cannot match the PAP when it comes to town planning, infrastructure construction and estate management.

What you can do on the other hand are:
    a. scrutinize how current facilities are being used, how many are white elephants, money wasters and obviously done to impress.

    b. Propose how SDP will run the town council, where the team will come from, how you will use the accumulated funds already under the town council's management, what savings, job opportunities and improvements in service you will bring etc.

Everyone knows that the PAP, NTUC, Civil Service and
Peoples Association are all from the same family. You touch one member of the family, the rest will gang up against you.

Learn from Chiam See Tong and Low Thia Kiang...no harm. People voted again and again for them despite all the carrots that the govt tempted the voters with.

Humility will move mountain and is priceless. Win the hearts of the people with genuine concern and empathy for those in power. Recognize that its going to be an uphill battle and ask voters to give you a chance...give themselves a chance.

The force will be with you.
  • maxchew - Crooks and conmen?
Aren't these so-called Ministers slick crooks and conmen?
    What has S'pore come to?
  • compassion republican - White Elephants
Vote buying??? or White Elephants project???
Will this facilities upgrading further increase the already expensive HDB flats???

Mr Viven, please no low class politics please.
We don't want any religious based politics, race based politics or gender based politics.

Does it bother you if Mr Vincent is a gay person???
Are you loosing sleep over it??? What is the problem???

Monica Lewinsky over Bill Clinton's case for impeachment was clearly Political Motivated. It was a waste of taxpayer money to impeach him. Bill Clinton had a moment of weakness, however you cannot discount his abilities to clear United States huge deficit and turn it into a surplus. Americans voted Clinton into the oval office for the 2nd term, strictly on his ability to run the country well both economically and protecting the homeland.

Question: Are you looking for a Priest or Saint??? to manage the country???

This is modern Singapore, there is already a virbant Gay Movement in Singapore. Yawning Bread is one example. Maybe Mr Vincent should come out of the closet, share with the Mass Media and Public the pain and hurt of being a gay person in Singapore while still contributing to Singapore. As for pushing Section 337A, hey isn't this what Obama Barrack on his speech on the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" that is what Liberal Democrats does. This is a Democrats party and not a Conservative Right Wing Christain White Folks Party, mind you. American is had huge population of African, Asian and Hispanics

Gay people are patriot, Gay people serve the army, Gay people are willing to sacrifice his own life to save others.
Yes, Obama Barrack The President Of United States OF America is pushing for more Gays Rights, what is your problems??? (mind you, I am a striaght, I am Asian, I am Chinese, yes I do have with Gay friends)
  • Tan Tai Wei
Yet another "gimmick", this one seemingly degenerating into blatant dishonesty and deceit, which I just heard on CNA about their slur on Dr Vijey on account of his purported sexual orientation.

That aspersion cast with regard to "the video SDP is suppressing" was probably intended to have the effect of scandalising him merely because of his wanting "to be the first gay MP".

But now, maybe because they suddenly remember that MM had said there was nothing wrong with gay MPs provided they perform, or that government had declared that the civil service would not discriminate against gays, they have now come out with the statement that their intention was not to attack his sexuality but only to get Vijey and SDP to clarify their agenda if it includes championing gay rights.

All so innocent, and the clash with official Party line is avoided!

But all this, with the underlying motive still retained, that voters, the majority of whom they hope are conservative about homosexuality, would get the real message they intend?

I personally feels that this coming GE2011 is the best i can see with so many quality and courageous candidates from the SDP! My vote goes to U-SDP!!!
  • compassion republican - Lehman Brothers
What will happened to all these Facilities Upgrading after it is mission completed

Question: who will pay for the upkeep of these new toys??? higher conservancy charges???
Or it is going to free, they will invest, and the interest made goes into it??? Remember Lehaman Brothers, when their finger got burn???

Question: Are our Govt. serious in bringing Top Notch Foreign Talent??? what happen if they are gay people???

I had seen the SDP Supressing Videos
The whole video was spoken from another speaker with a headscarves around his neck.
Mr Vincent was one of the many auidence, which he did raise a question and not the only one

Please watch the video carefully, the speaker mention about 377A and sex with boys age 14. That was the speaker with a scarves around his neck
This "sound-bites" will be replay and replay over and over again. What is a "soundbites" A short extract from a recorded interview but not the whole show.
These words did not come out from Mr Vincent mouth.

Perfect! SDP is asking exactly the pertinent questions that should be asked and which are on everyone’s minds.

They won't do it. Won’t answer these questions or do the ‘renewal’, whether they win or not! No diff!

It’s too easy to announce this just before elections and then to sling it into the trash can the minute the elections are over. They already have a million excuses ready. If they do anything at all, it will be only 10% or even 5% of this budget. The rest of it will probably go into their and their cronies' pockets.

$500M is a huge amount of money. $100M more than what they blew on the YOG. Probably a figure pulled out of the air because it looks nice and grand. Then they increase taxes, cess, fees, costs, etc. and say, well, the money has to come from somewhere for the “renewal”. And if they don’t win, there’s no “renewal”. Sickening!

The PAP has a long track record of all sorts of broken promises, especially involving grand projects announced just before elections. Had PAP's previous pre-election promises been fully delivered? Or was budgeted money spent on fancy but useless projects, or, worse, not spent at all?

I am keen to elect politicians who are able to articulate sound, thoughtful and diverse views for discussion on any number of issues in Parliament, regardless of whether I agree with them or not. As such, I am disappointed that Dr Balakrishnan paints such a negative picture of MPs “pursuing causes in the political arena”. Isn’t that what we are voting them in for?

It seems most PAP candidates are persimmistics about citizens growth and our national improvements.

One must realise that our environment and expectation has changed dramatically over the last 60 years in Singapore. Its good to know that the first time voters have a wider choice to make and they will make theirs under current circumstance.
I grew up in an attap house with no running water and electricity. My father explained that under British rule the government in power did not allow for free elections for a long time. there was no welfare and the b iggest killer then was tuberculosis due to poor living conditions. When we bought a three room HDB for $6000, my father was a staunch supporter of the PAP and was so until he passed away. Its no wonder that he was a supporter. The cabinet was made up of ministers that really cared for the people. All of them went into politics for less than what they were getting in their carreers/occupation. There was no talk about 'raiding the treasury' or which constituency desrved to have public housing built when HDB was building one flat every 45 minutes.
As for myself, I have benefitted from good government in terms of good healthcare, affordable housing, economic growth. By living frugally, I save enough to own two private condos. Even then, what I have in CPF which I can use when I retire is realistically not enough as it is eaten away by inflation and high cost of basic necessities. It will be wiped away should I be hospitalised with a major illness. I have to sell at least one condo to help pay for my two sons' housing needs and not to depend on them during my old age. I believe that the 'Golden Age of Singapore' was during my working life. Singapore's current leadership is focussed on the wrong things and some are shamelessly not admitting to making mistakes and not take resposibility for it.
My children will have to struggle and the chance of them ever being able to retire like me is slim. I therefore will not burden them and provide for myself and wife without their help . They are burdened enough and will be so if they start a family. I hope my children will vote wisely for their future and I am voting not for my past but for their future.

    With Love,
    Eric
