Singapore Democrats

We have come to the end of our campaign for GE2011. Our long road started in March 2009 - more than two years ago. Since then we have ridden the ups and downs, twists and turns of a campaign that has been exhiliarating at times and trying at others.

Through these years, we have built up this party through sweat and sacrifice and we hope the results are evident to you. This website is testament to all that we have done. Our traffic ranking among Singapore websites as recorded by alexa.com has shot to 230. The number of visitors even surpasses that of the PAP's website.

(Please note that new regulations prohibit us from updating this website until after Polling Day. We will resume our updates then.)

We are the only party to have posted videos for your information and sometimes entertainment. Make sure you visit our Featured Videos page and take a look at some of our more popular videos during the Cooling-off Day. More important forward them to your family and friends.

Our work has allowed our competence to shine through. As a result we have been able to field a slate of candidates who we dare say is quite unprecedented in Singapore's opposition political history. We have top former civil servants, academics, and high calibre professionals in our team. We invite you to review our candidates' biodata here.

You may also know that we have been the most contsructive party in the years leading up to this campaign. We published and launched our economic manifesto It's About You last year. We have condensed this and presented our Manifesto online. We ask you to take a look at this and again inform everyone you know about it.

Early this year, Dr Vincent Wijeysingha presented our Shadow Budget 2011. Now during the campaign, Mr Tan Jee Say has come up with an economic plan to take Singapore forward. Dr James Gomez launched our Shadow Healthcare Plan: Healing With Care which he has worked on with a team of six medical professions including Dr Ang Yong Guan and Prof Paul Tambyah of NUH.

We are proud of the fact that we are the party of ideas and solutions to take our country forward.

In all that we propose, we have always based it on the fact that as a society we need to demonstrate compassion to our fellow men and women. Without compassion we become no matter than animals.

Even as we strive to push our economy ahead, we must never leave behind our poor, our weak and our elderly. Compassion is what we must retain and compassion is at the heart of everything we do here at the SDP.

We have visited as many of houses as we possible could. We apologise to those of you whom we could not say hello to in person and we ask for your understanding that with our limited resources we could not visit every household.

We have given our all and we stand ready to give even more.

In this campaign many arguments have been made and many words have been exchanged. But we recognise that at the end of the day after all the hype has died down, it is you who must live with the policies that your MPs make. It is for this reason that we we have made this campaign about you because we the Singapore Democrats believe that politicians exist to serve, not lord over, the people.

The campaigning is over. Now it's up to you. You will go to the polls on Saturday and you will vote for your future. We hope that we have earned your vote. Vote for the party that can serve you well. Vote for a party that is Competent, Constructive and Compassionate.

Vote SDP.

Well, finally it seems PAP had already started crumbling down, with the annoucements made by minister George Yeo that 'PAP NEEDS TO TRANSFORM' during the last day of the rally held at Aljunied.

Hence, guess several key ministers and members in PAP are already feeling the unhappiness amongst them.

Thus, strongly believe SDP and some other credible opposition parties, should be able to win this election, either comfortably or near comfortable, in marking a new era in the history of Singapore politics. CHEERS! CHEERS! CHEERS!

  • SBG - Best Ever Team
SDP's Holland-Bukit Timah GRC team is indeed the best that I have seen after the Eunos GRC team led by late JBJ.

Dr Ang, Mr Tan, Dr Vincent and Ms Michelle are more than capable to address both Economics and Social issues.

I went to all major parties rallies including the ruling party rally, SDP rallies is most engaging and full of contents.

For those who still have the misled image of SDP and Dr Chee Soon Juan, I would tell you that it is all not true. I am at his rally in 2001 at CCK stadium, his sister's rally at Segar 2006, he is NOT a clown or insane person! It is all created by state controlled media.

    Please vote wisely

SDP has done very well this time, but I'm very sceptical as to whether the massive applause SDP received will translate into votes.

Strategically speaking, I'm not sure if Holland/BT was a good choice. SDP speaks for the poor, but Holland/BT arethe most affluent constituencies in Singapore.

I hope to wake in the morning of 8 May and see SDP in Parliament. I longed for the day where Dr Chee would present his maiden speech in Parliament as MP.

    May God bless you, SDP.
  • RW - Repent
Recently our SM said that if we cast the vote to opposition, we have to repent for the next five years.

The first step of repentance is to admit to ourselves that we have sinned. If we do not admit this, we cannot repent.

    what sin do we commit?

The right to vote is not a sin.

I hope everyone understand this and cast your vote to SDP because PAP is really upseting us too much.

I have notice that SDP as whole really outperformed the PAP in all areas of GE campaign . I salute all the team members & volunteers for manifesting the real pure powerful spirit of sincere citizens and the humility in presenting yourission & vision for Singaporeans and future citizens. I purchased ($161) all available books titles (8 ) during your rally at Woodsland Stadium and I am very much enlightened and encouraged after reading three books so far ( A Nation Cheated , Beyond The Blue Gate by lawyer Miss Teo Soh Lung, she autographed the book for and when I asked her what principle or. quote she live by, she wrote on the same page ; "Life is a daring adventure or nothing." and I am now reading title The Power Of Courage )

I recornmend anyone who like to learn the history and the struggle of democratic citizenry in Singapore to read these book titles for him/her self.
Being a new citizen and a virgin (first time) voter at Aljunied GRC , I can now discern beyond the face of candidate, beyond the political party, beyond the policies issues and make a purposeful final decision on who my vote ought to be cast. Yes, I realized my vote though just one vote, can affect and change many citizens quality of life here with me. I am going to vote for the betterment of other citizens too . I salute your missioners and your party even though I not a SDPer. Thanks!

I would like to thank you for the hard work and great effort put into this election. Whatever that have happened, the team has a whole has done a good job. You have put up a good fight. It sad that that non of the teams were voted into the parliament especially the the team from the Holland-Bukit Timah GRC. Don't give up the fight, please do come back to continue to serve the people who have people voted for you. Being a volunteer during the election, your kindness and appreciation to us is heartfelt. Hope to see more of you again the next election. Hope you will grow stronger and better when you are back the next time.

It's my 5th time voting n as i live near Hougang n support WP i never pay much attention about SDP. Although I knew clearly the local press was totally bias n being unfair to SDP in reporting, i always felt that the party took too drastic action to get attention. But i can't help notice in this GE that SDP got v. gd teams n with great objectives n motives. I agreed with most in their manifesto. Dr. Chee has done well n the future of the SDP looks much better. My two cents is that the party focus n gather support from the young immediately for the next GE in 2016, take the more rational road, just do your own gd stuffs, recruit gd people with credentials n ignore confrontation with PAP because these are traps by the MIWs with help by the local press. People in Singapore is always hesitant but not stupid to know. N i can safely say that SDP is moving in the right direction at present, keep up the gd work.
