Singapore Democrats

We want to thank all of our supporters who stood by us in this elections. We may not have won our contests but we hope we have won your hearts and your minds.

Many of you volunteered your time and energy to help in the campaign and we are grateful. We have made many new friends and we hope you will stay with us as we chart our way forward in search of eventual electoral success. It is for you that we continue to labour on in this undemocratic system with all the odds stacked against us.

Once again, from all of us at the SDP: Thank you.

THANK YOU, SDP, for fighting so valiantly for us!

May you scale ever higher mountains on the road to achieving equality, freedom and true democracy for all Singaporeans!

We will not forget you! We will be walking beside you till the next election!

Wishing you the VERY BEST of Success, SDP!
  • MF - Thank you too!
Thank you SDP for good example! Thank you for the hard work and sacrifice!
We have also composed a letter, which we know the local media will not publish for us,
but we want to share some of our reflection with citizens :-

Reflection of the 2011 GE Singapore

We are a group of working class professional and SME directors.
As we ourselves gone through this current election, there are few objectives which we felt important, and as expected blanketed-out or simply brushed off by the ruling party as not worthy of any mention.

CREDIBILITY. Yes it's the 'C' word which the PAP had repeated again and again over their donkey years of politics. Year after year, as PAP boasted louder and louder about their credibility, we actually see LESSER of the PAP credibility. For all the various issues and personality mentioned and scrutinized by the state-controlled media, nothing can be as hot topics as 'TPL' of Marine Parade GRC.
Let just come straight to the point. Something which is white, we just say 'WHITE", something which is black, we just say "BLACK". 'TPL' of Marine Parade GRC is definitely one proven DIS-CREDIBILITY for the PAP. Even with their own PAP members raising issues against her. Further more, for such a DIS-CREDIBLE candidate to be allow in the same group with SM Goh, it's as bad as for the PAP to shoot themselves in their own foot.

Out-side PAP, we find much more credible candidates!

CONNECTIVITY. One of those issues which the PAP have accused the various new parties candidate. This have become such amazement to us, that the PAP had failed to realized, we citizens felt much more connected to all the parties contesting against PAP. In fact, citizens actually felt DIS-CONNECTED with the arrogant high and lofty PAP. Although the PM tried the 'sorry' word, it so obvious wayang wayang. The morning after 7 May, people are expressing their regrets for voting PAP. Waking up to another reality, the PAP MPs are not going to change they way they talk to you during the Meet-the-People sessions. Neither is Mr Mah going to do anything about your HDB. So sorry for those who vote for PAP.

CARE. When the PAP candidate for Yehua used the sub-prime loan crises to ask 'who were there for you!', we literally rolled with laughter on the floors. We felt sorry for the resident of Yeshua, till the next election, its going to be worst problem talking to a PAP MP who does not have a heart for the residents.

UNITY. Yes, this is where we actually see the hearts and souls of the various parties contesting against PAP. This is where it give us our sense of integrity as citizens, born and raised here.

INTEGRITY. Just by comparing all the various pamphlets, statements and issues raised publicly, we see a common trend of 'true', 'factual', 'practical', 'humble approach', by the various parties and candidates. Whereas from the PAP, smoke-screen and more smoke-screen and even more empty promises and fake apology, not to mention smearing efforts to destroy their neighbors and fellow citizens.

We had hope for better results, but are aware of the various tactic of the local media to propagandize and pressure the weak and needy.

In fact based on the observations we make, PAP lost big time! Although numbers are important, but numbers being numbers by themselves. If we are looking for real quality life and respect, we will not choose PAP.

Noticed that from now, we will not use the "O" word to address the various parties? Because we want to see you as true honorable contestant of the political arena. This same respect we have for all you who stood against the PAP.

Together, we have a vision for Singapore.

Although this journey is difficult, rowing against the tide, but if we put our hands together, again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again, we should see the light at the end of the tunnel.

As within our human soul, is found that desire for righteousness and justice and fairness to be uphold.
  • linky07 - thank you
thank you SDP. I attended your rally at OUB Plaza on thursday afternoon, and it was one of the most impressive rally I watched throughout, even better than WP which I supported. pls pass the message to Dr Vincent Wijeysingha, that he is my new hero. To Michelle Lee, Tan Jee Say, James Gomez and Ang Soon Guan, i really wish you all could have enter the parliament. I really do. Pls fight again. Singaporean need you in 2016.
  • Clear eyed
Dear SDP, thank you very much for fighting so hard to be our voice in Parliament. You may not have succeeded this time but the many, many hearts and minds you have won will continue to fight alongside you until democracy, freedom, justice and equality prevail in our land.
  • btan - Good job
Good job to SDP for a very well run campaign. I felt the only flaw is that Dr Chee cannot stand up there to speak to the audience. Please try to get Dr Chee out of bankruptcy so that he can run in the next 2016 election.

SDP has made inroads to the voters' heart. It will not take just one election but many elections to win their trust.

Please learn some strategies from WP, especially their strong party discipline and one day, an SDP MP will enter parliament again.
  • Lukechen - Hope
Thank you for inspiring us with your honesty, courage, research, laughter, and above all, hope. The energy at your rallies had been electric and I don't recall feeling so singaporean in a long time, I am personally glad that my first chance to vote in my life happened at holland-bukit timah and for a brief moment, there was a hope that the improbable can actually become possible.

Regardless of the outcome, you and the other opposition parties this time have given the slumbering ruling party a much needed wake up call. You have shown many voters that you are a credible, resourceful and forward-looking party and I'm sure you will continue to win over the hearts of more and more Singaporeans.

Towards a free, fair and forgiving Singapore!

Thank you SDP, for getting interested in politics.

I've never ever been interested because of the no-game nature of elections in singapore. More often than not, we were faced with walkover. And on those few exciting occasions when there was a contest, felt that the opposition candidates that were fielded were very cannot-make-it. opposition parties were drowning in anger, indulged in name-calling, and made petty remarks.

So i say again, thank you for getting me interested in the elections. i was as apathetic as ever this year, and complained loudly to everyone i know that SDP was contesting in my ward.

and so i was shocked to hear michelle lee on the news one day and discover that she was representing SDP. she sounded like such an intelligent, clear-sighted and compassionate person that it made me sit up. i love the way she can refute statements made against her in a way that is respectful and non-insulting, while at the same time undermining the validity of her attacker. beautiful job, michelle, i respect you a lot. you made me sit up and start to think that SDP might be worth checking out.

i spent 2 days pouring over the website. i read the sdp manifesto and realised it was the most beautiful vision i have seen for singapore, bar none. i listened to the videos and realised that (with some exceptions), a lot of love and compassion had crept into the sdp rethoric.

my favourite is CSJ talking at the NUSS graduate club. the soundbyte about letting singaporeans represent singapore in sports brought tears to my eyes. i agree, let our people have the chance to do their best, even if they dont do well at first, because the exprience of it is more precious than anything money can buy. yes, it is very idealistic, but the idea of nuturing the singaporean soul is an ideal i can totally buy into.

i love Vincent Wijeysingha. i think it is a crying shame he and Michelle Lee are not in parliament.

please presevere, and hold to this new direction. by focusing on nuturing the soul of singapore -- respecting our past, nuturing our ecology, preserving our biodiversity, adopting a non-xenophobic approach to limiting foreign talent -- you care carving an ideological nice for yourselves that is just as strong as WP's "towards a first world parliament".

given time, i'm sure more people will start to see SDP in a new light too.

thank you again, and god bless.
  • Socially_Cal - We need grassroot movements asap !
You guys have done a great job. I am very proud of our SDP team that was presented in GE 2011. However, we need to do some soul searching on our loss, and plan for the GE 2016.

The party has an urgent task and that is to hold a get-together for all the volunteers as soon as possible, and plan for the grassroots movements.

The second thing is a lot of people has been asking me, how do you join as a party member of SDP ?

  • tatoumei
Thank you so much SDP and each one of you for putting yourself out there for the people. You have done a great job and I sincerely hope that you will continue your efforts to build on the momentum of this GE.

Many Singaporeans are awaken during this GE because for the first time in awhile, there is hope and possibility for our voices to be heard. We must ensure that this momentum will not be lost or forgotten in the next 5 years, especially the younger generation, including those under 21 who could not vote this time. This cultivation of political awareness and involvement need to be sustained on all levels.

I agree that we need a get-together for all the SDP supporters and volunteers to make a plan for what's next. You have won many hearts and minds, and together, we will make the change we want in time to come.
  • King Cobra
    Dear SDP,

Firstly, congratulations on your securing of an increased in votes count, which is of the highest among all other opposition parties, though not winning any of the seats contested. Well Done!

Nevertheless, given the time, preparations, readiness, awareness, ability to recruit more highly qualified members by the next GE, do strongly believe SDP could emerge as one of the best credible political party in Singapore to be reckoned with.

Hence, expect both SDP and WP to be the future main opposition forces of Singapore politics.

To side track, guess in the very near future, there maybe some key and retired ex-ministers, as well as, ordinary PAP and union members, may either form a new party, or join the oppositions, which I sincerely hope, SDP could seize the opportunity in try luring, and strengthening the party base and it's image.

Till then, thanking you very much once again, and hope to look forward to a more influential, powerful and well organized SDP. CHEERS!
  • hplee - BIG THANK YOU
A BIG THANK YOU! to all opposition members, especially to SDP, Dr. Vincent, Mr TJS, DR Ang, Michelle, James, TSL and the rest.
You all done a credible job and I am sadden that Singaporeans lose you guys not in the Parliament to speak up. Is really a lost!
I have to salute all of you for your self-sacrifices, the couragerous, the brilliant. You all have not lost yet! All of you will be remembered and respected!
    All the best!
From a 62 years old singaporean.

I would like to share here some thoughts which I posted in a comment in TR.
    ........................................................................................................................

I would like to also say that he results are too good to be true – for the PAP.

    (1) Why were the names and logos of the contesting parties printed in light grey ink on the ballot slips? Without any colour or black ink, they all looked similar to each other and will definitely confuse the elderly, the lowly-educated, the NCs (who are unfamiliar with the parties) and the first-time voters (who may also be unfamiliar with the parties).

    (2) Why was the PAP candidate and PAP logo listed on the second row/sequence and not on the first row/sequence, as was traditionally done? Unlike in previous elections, this time the Oppo candidate and logo was listed first and Pap’s were listed second. This is another factor which may have caused confusion in elderly and lowly-educated voters.

These 2 factors could have caused enough confusion to have been crucial in closely-fought contests.

Regarding those 10,000 in Bishan-Toa Payoh who didn’t even turn up.

I have a hunch those people who didn't even vote are the New Citizens. Perhaps in their own countries, voting is NOT compulsory like it is here, and, being NCs, they may not be sure which party they should vote for. So they 'abstain'.

There is a rather large proportion of the electorate who are NCs. We should not just assume that those who didn't even turn up are all Singaporeans. Singaporeans are compliant and obedient by nature and most would try to turn up, but foreigners grew up in a different culture.

The counting is decentralised and broken up by precincts. Each of the over 700 precincts (consisting of a few hundred blocks each) has about 3 or 4 ballot boxes. These boxes are taken to the counting centres, ballot slips counted and the numbers tabulated by precinct and then sub-totalled and totalled.

The EC officer who tallies up the final total for a constituency or the officer who makes the final announcement, how can we be sure he is announcing the correct total? We can’t.

I don’t trust those numbers. Moreover, if they have hidden for so long the amount of our reserves in TH and GIC, the actual cost of building a single HDB flat, exactly how public funds are spent and have always tried to evade their accountability, of course I don’t trust them.

Aljunied was perhaps 'allowed' to be lost, to satisfy the serious discontent on the ground. GY and his team were the sacrificial lambs. This assumption matches with what LKY said about Aljunied and GY during campaign week. The PAP was not well-prepared and made far too many gaffes and blunders. Anywhere else, they would have lost. The Oppo were, by far, much better all round. The ground was strongly anti-PAP and pro-Oppo. Yet the PAP won.
    .

Something else I would like to share.
    ............................................................................................................................

This is an interesting analysis by Robert Ho about what influenced the electorate and the reason for the difference in voter share between WP and the other Oppo parties.

  • theahma - THANK YOU
Dear members and candidates of SDP,

I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your bravery and gumption in giving us a voice.

Even though I am not a part of constituencies that you contested in, I have been won over by your speeches and manifesto. In particular, I am grateful that you chose to address education reform for a few different reasons. Practically, the current education system is really a root cause of many of the other issues that were 'hot topics' in this election season. But more than that, a reformed, student-centered, co-intentional, democratic education is humanizing. Personally, while I am grateful for the many opportunities that the education I received afforded me, I am also indignant at the many things that it suppressed in me. For example, I remember the right answer mentality paralyzing me when I first started my post-secondary education overseas.

I would like you to know that I am with you in working towards transformation of the education system. I am an artist-educator currently gaining experience in progressive education, which I hope to put to use in Singapore at some point. I have many friends who are amazing teachers, whose talent has been mismanaged because they have been made to be administrators at the MOE Headquarters. They, too, would like to be working towards a better education system.

However, there are limitations to what we, as educators, can do within a system that is resistant to change. Thus, I would like to urge you to keep pressing on in your fight to give the young people of Singapore a voice and a better future.
  • Social_justice - Election.

The only hope that is left for Singaporeans for the next 5 years is the WP's hammer in the paraliament.

Why is SDP so useless? Can't even win 1 seat with its team A members?
  • jsraj - Thank You
I wish to congratulate Dr Chee and the SDP Team for a fantastic campaign.

Though the team had lesser resources than the ruling party, the innovative manner in which it got its message across, the well reseached budget, the manifesto and the speeches at the rallies were simply first class.

In particular the regular luancing of the youtube video clips was brilliant. Please continue to upload a video so that Singaporeans can have the benefitof your alterbate views and comments on policies.

In this regard I dare say that the SDP, outdid every party including the ruling party, in having done its homework.

Reading the various papers produced by the SDP Team, and listening to your speeches in itself has been an education.

The SDP definitely has been demonised by the ruling party and the media and that had played a large part in singaporeans having a negative impression of the SDP and being restrained mentally in casting their votes in your favour.

This elections saw the launching of the SDP Brand and I forsee a brilliant future for SDP.

I wish the SDP a brilliant next five years, where it crystallize its policies, continues its outreach programs, build a strong grassroots connection and a strong team of candidates.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH.
  • dreamybear - Thank you
A big thank you to the SDP team for Holland Bukit Timah! Although you didnt win, you certainly made up proud by putting up (in my personal opinion) the 2nd top opposition GRC team for this election. Heartful thanks for all you have done for us!
  • Be Courageous, Singapore - There's Hope
A simple message of great thanks to the SDP team for stepping up to the plate, despite the difficult battles fraught with all kinds of obstacles and dirty tactics. Look on the bright side that SDP has gained more votes this time around and a noticeably positive image, and who knows what the next contest will bring, as it did for WP.
I hope the SDP machinery will continue engaging and enlightening the electorate and be ready as the disenchanted segment continues to grow. Stay humble, be joyful for the many hearts and minds you've touched during the campaign and look after the people's interest. One day, your victory will be really sweet. God will bless your efforts!
  • freedomT
Thank you sdp. Because of you, the true colour of Kwa and his team has been exposed. Please set up SDP grassroots in Sembawang GRC. Would love to help out with the SDP.
  • mikhail - Groundwork
Congrats on the achievement of getting higher percentage this time round!!

but now is the time for SDP to get back to the drawing board. I am strongly emphasise the need of groundwork by SDP. You must, must do frequent walkabouts, door knockings and house visits !..they are crucial..it sounds old but it does work..Do you know that some PAP MP does it at least once a week month and targeting 4 visits per year per block in their constituency??

Not everyone has internet..and some still believe in a personal touch.

If only SDP did the above, we would see surprise results =(.

Anyhow, we still have 5 years to do it. all the best =)

  • quantum - Singaporeans still not enlightened.
I realise some things about this election:

    1) Singaporeans by and large are still not enlightened. They vote for personalities and not issues.

    2) Singaporeans are still very backward. They can use religion to persecute and oppress a candidate because of his sexuality.

    3) Many Singaporeans , esp the educated ones, are fascists. They want the whole society to be ruled only by 1 or 2 persons.

    4) Many Singaporeans still worries about their jobs and houses if they vote for their favorite party. They are still not voting freely.

  • quantum - Newspapers in Singapore
One more thing: PAP will remain dominant as long as the newspapers continue to report rubbish and swing public opionions during cooling off period.
  • Socially_Cal - Saying "Goodbye and Committed"
    Hello,

I know the campaigning period must have been extremely taxing for the candidates and the party. Especially, after the night at Quality Hotel.

However, I strongly urge the party to organise an effort to take down the posters at all the GRCs.

Furthermore, there is a real NEED to assure the voters that the party stays committed by having walkabouts one last time to thank the voters. A group of grassroots must be gathered !

we hope we have won your hearts and your minds.

Yes you have won my heart and mind to fight on for real pure democracy in our nation. I am continuing this challenge and i hope you will continue to share and inspire the Singaporeans with more real evidences and courage to battle on, even without being in the Parliament for our daily places of work is our platform and parliament to share and empower the fellow Singaporeans , daily.

Thank you SDP, let us not give up and let's unite in mind and heart for Pure Democracy in Singapore !
  • sdp-sdp - Keep On Fighting Real Democracy
If not for the controlled local medias it would had been an easy win. You guys are great admire your brain-power.

Job well done in GE 2011, I am so very proud of the accomplishment SDP have gotten judging from the percentage of votes gained.

Please keep the fight going eradicate PAP dominance.

    Majulah Singapura!!!!
  • SK Neo
I have gone to every Opposition's rallies during this GE 2011 including WP, SDP, SPP, SDA, RP & NSP.

I feel that SDP's speech is the BEST. Not only from the SDP's A team members but also from other SDP members too. Messages were put across clearly & sometimes very creative.

So I have a message for this person who post his remark on 8th May "Why is SDP so useless? Can't even win 1 seat with its team A members?".

SDP did their best for all Singaporeans. They are doing something that most of us want to do but not capable of or no courage to do so. Please give your encourgement instead. Thank you!

To SDP team, Thank you so much for your effort. Have a good rest and continue to fight for us. See you again in 2016.

    Dear SDP,

We are very glad that Worker Party created history by wining the Adjunied GRC.

My my jubilant was short lived when Bukit Timah/Holland was not able to win by SDP. Later Potong Pasir was also not able to win by Mrs Chiam.

I was very hopeful and confident that Vincent and his team can make it to Bukit Timah Holland but too bad..I felt that Vincent is one the the best person to represent the people in the parliment. We are all very confortable with SDP teams. In fact, I feel that SDP rally is the most enjoyable to attend, there got Danny Bear.

Eventough SDP lost this time, but nevertheless, the % of voters vote SDP have increase significantly.

Eventhough lost,SDP need to continue to walk the ground to make friend with the pp who don't vote for them.I really hope that the present team will continue to be there in the next election and the party to grow signicantly. We hope that SDP will continue to update the website because SDP webtside is one of my favourite website.

We will always there be by your side....

  • Neutral

    Hi SDP,

I agree with Socially-Cal to organise a Walkabout to thanks the voters. This will show that SDP is really sincere to appreciate the voters. The voters will remember SDP in the next election.

SDP can also organise walkabout, maybe every year so that the voters will know them even before the the next General Election. SDP can also organise short trip maybe to M'sia and Batam, and if successful maybe to overseas with fellow S'poren . SDP can also attend the residents funeral so show that people know that they care not only during the election time.

I feel that the best time to win the heart and mind of people is during normal time, not only during election time.
  • nklim188 - A well-run campaign-congratulation
Thank you for a very well organised and inspiring election campaign. The intellectual quality, passion and sincerity of the SDP candidates outshone those from the dominant party many times over. This gives us, Singapore and Singaporeans, hope for the future.
In this election, SDP has left quite an indelible mark in the minds of many voters. Continue your good work and the day will soon come when SDP candidates will be inducted into Parliament.
  • Tan Tai Wei
    Well done!

MM is suffering myopia, warning that we can't assume we can be on "auto-pilot".

Even his underlings have said that "it is good for Singapore to have a strong opposition".

Now, "strong opposition" must mean such as what has indeed occurred, ie. opposition being elected. Just to have all, or almost all seats contested, without significant seats won, surely cannot constitute "strong opposition".

The good effect of strong opposition was already felt even before voting. They had acknowledged the need for reform. And that means that the opposition had been uaeful at awaking them to past wrongs, and the need to "transform" and put things right.

How important, then, to have co-pilots, especially when we can't as yet be on "auto-pilot"!
  • free.mason - Thank You
    Dear SDP,

Thanks for efforts, and you certainly deserved better !

Hopefully you will build on the momentum here and please do not fade away, you'll never walk alone :)
  • dreamybear - Great job guys - some feedback and suggestions
Further to a big thank you for your contributions to the maturation of the political scene in Singapore, as a voter in H/BT I'll also like to provide some feedback and suggestions.

Although I stay in H/BT I have no idea how the SDP would fare although you had a much much stronger team as compared to the other teams fielded by pap; and a lot (in my mind) has got to do with the way the pap leader VB conducted himself (lack of accountability over YOG, arrogant attitude, smear tactics) and the fact that although I had stayed here for the past 30+ years I've never seen any pap MP accept perhaps 3 times in the market shaking hands prior to elections. In other words, I have never felt they have done anything for me (staying in HDB there for 20 years before moving to private for past 10 years). So I am really disappointed that the results couldnt be better; although I am truly grateful for the class act that the SDP team has put up: a clean campaign, extremely strong and credible candidates; as well as the substance of the policies and proposals you are standing for. Before I start - huge kudos to Mr Tan Jee Say for all your work with the economic rejuvenation plan - there's so few people in Singapore who can possibly come up with something so comprehensive - I really appreciate and support the spirit of the plan.

Thus, here is my personal analysis of the situation:

    1. Selection of constituency, demography of voter, and SDP's positioning
HBT is a constituency more steered towards middle and higher income, with more educated electorates. They will resonate with your inspirational, philosophical messages and arguments based on reasoning and logic. However 2 things make me do a double-take: increase in income taxes and minimum wage. Increase in personal income tax would be painful to these voters. Should we look at other ways of cutting down slack instead of increasing personal income tax? Minimum wage of $6.50. Whilst I totally agree that our old "uncles" and "aunties" should not be left to work till 70+ doing menial low-paying jobs that are paying $2+ /hour; but is there any economic analysis behind what's the overall impact to the economy if we do raise it to $6.50? Someone said that your policies sounded a bit "socialist" in nature - that again rings some alarm bells in my mind; I wont want Singapore to be a socialist state. Perhaps that's not what the SDP really means; my point is positioning needs to be clearer.

    2. Level of detail of the proposals / Presenting solutions
Whilst having details is good, but when the proposed solutions are so specific: double the schools. $1 million each to each budding enterprise ; income taxes to 30%; Min wage of $6.50 there's a high chance that people will pick weak points in your proposal and turn it off in their minds, and the rallies are not the right platform to provide detailed data-based analysis to justify your proposals. How many of the audience are economists who understands the issues and the implications of the proposed solutions? Contrast that to WP's campaign - they offer simple ideology that everyone understands - providing an alternative voice in government for the people; and force the incumbent to be on their toes and to be better. In my limited understanding of politics , any such policies would be debated in parliament before its been passed, so my suggestion to SDP is that you should bring up the issues; and offer general positions and directions of the solutions; but let the exact solution evolve, and not stated.

    3. Playing up to your strengths - Visibility for Vincent
Dr Vincent is perhaps the best speaker of this elections. Inspirational and articulate, well done! You need to spread your videos of your rallies to as many people as possible. During the campaign period, I can only find 20% of SDP's related videos via your website, the rest I have to search across the net (primarily Youtube) with the right keywords. You should organise your online site to provide links to these video assets easily, and your website to highlight the most critical videos (as not many people have time to go thru too many). Basically your website can still be improved to make it more exciting and provide timely updates and online outreach.

    4. Your challenges
    a) Media. Their portrayal of the A team as consisting of a social activist; teacher, private investor, and psychologist. These descriptions do no justice to the intellectual horsepower, and strong public-service experiences that this HBT A team constitute - which I researched over the internet. You need to play up your credentials somehow! I'm also disappointed why the traditional media keep mentioning about the gay issue - way more than the topic deserves. Do not fret, Singaporeans will be able to judge ourselves. But you need to make it easy for the average Singaporean to know your credentials.

    b) The average Singaporean uncle/auntie. Some of these folks (not sure %) would have some sort of local CC/RC activities, and they will be following the grassroot herd mentality of attending pap events and rallies simply because its organised and their friends are there. Of course over that buffet dinner (prior to boarding chartered buses for the rallies) they would have been outreached. Unfortunately these folks are quite simple and have only heard one side of the story. And for the lower-incomes ones (exactly the ones you are trying to protect) I am not sure if they attend rallies (most of yours are in English too); and your messages have no way of reaching them.

Sorry for the long posting I just want to pay some tribute to all the hardwork all of you has put into the campaign by composing my thoughts and suggestions, which I hope would be constructive towards SDP's progress. As a final thought, if we are all working towards the good of Singapore, has the SDP thought of combining forces with WP?

I am truly devastated by the results.

I am very sad that SDP did not get a seat in parliament despite a superior campaign against the PAP esp. the in Holland -BT GRC.

I disagree with the comment that S'porean by and large are not enlightment yet. Obviously, it's more like, by and large there are still many many S'poreans who are still very very selfish!

Despite presenting a good SDP manifesto that will generally benefit all S'poreans across. These ugly selfish S'poreans have reared its' ugly head again in this election. Just 'cos job loss and hardship has not befallen on them yet, they do not care about the rest of the less fortunate local fellow S'poreans. Truly selfish people!

I'm particularly angry that after all the selfless sacrifices made by people like Teo Soh Lung, CSJ, Ms Chee, Mr Ambalan, Vincent Cheng, John Tan, etc who were either jailed, fined or bankrupt. More than half the S'poreans in our country still don't "play" their part to support them. Selfish, daft and cowardly.

These 60% of S'poreans who voted in 81 PAP MPs have just mark the "cross" in the ballot for their lives future generation to be well and truly screwed! To these 60%....you people bloody deserve it!
  • MF - PAP smear camaigne and tactic
The person who posted with the name
"Social_justice - Election." and who falsely accuse SDP
is sooooooooo obvious, another one of those PAP supporters, using smear tactics and lies. as the media was quick to post photos of the winning WP Hougang new MP minor accident. not surprise this could be that same 'LKY boot licking Melvin Singh!'

    NOT TO WORRY MY FRIENDS!
The day have come, all these smearing idiots of PAP will have a taste of their own medicines and judgements. Their bad karma will destroy them.

In every society, there are more people who loves truth and honesty.

Lets us continues to walk upright in truth and integrity.

Already the heavens is punishing the PAP themselves, SM Goh now having to answers tough Qs about TPL, PM have to talk soft to us, they know we people have got the power to take them to task!!!

LKY may have held the 81 seats in parliament, but hey! we have enter a new age of politics! PARLIAMENTS WITHOUT WALLS!!! no parliament seats does not means we cannot TALK!!!

All the more the PAP wants to silences us citizens, all the more we citizens WILL TALK LOUDER!!!

So what even if LKY destroys all his opponents? can he stop the mouths of every millions citizens??!!!!

WE ARE NOT WAITING TILL THE NEXT ELECTION! NOW IS THE TIME TO RISE UP FOR TRUTH AND INTEGRITY!!!

Now that the election is over and that we are back in power for the next 5 years, let's RAISE the GST, the transport fees, the price of property, the price of utility, the ERP to punish the voters for giving us such a low results in the GE. AND when it is nearer to the next election, we will pacify them with some GST credits and 'goodies', together with some sweet promises and apology, and everything will be in our favour again.
  • breeze - election results
I am sure that it would have been a different election outcome had Dr. Chee been allowed to run. This is the tyranny of the PAP. But the wheels of change have been set in motion, and next time, there WILL be an SDP win. Who knows, Dr. Chee may be running as leader of the opposition, and then it will be a very different story.
  • Agape - Thank You for a job well done!
Just a big 'Thank You' for all the SDP's candidates for a great job done incredibly well! We love you all and we will continue to support you in the next GE! Hope the current team will continue to stay on track and stick around till the next GE. There are many supporters who would love to join you and these are the next generation of leaders that SDP may want to groom.

    God Bless you all!
Love from a true blue Singaporean
  • Jack Ong - BRAVO for doing the right things for the nation an
I thanked SDP for stepping forward in GE2011, with a superbly positive image, team, policies, messages and approach to the GE2011 campaign. The results of GE2011 will not change my support to you, especially the more inspiring leaders whom I hope would set themselves some time in coaching and mentoring the less experienced leaders. Well done and I am very proud of you!
