Singapore Democrats

Awesome Words

Our country is not the only thing to which we owe our allegiance. It is also owed to justice and to humanity. Patriotism consists not in waving the flag, but in striving that our country shall be righteous as well as strong.

Singapore Democrats

The continuing campaign at Bishan housing estate this morning attracted more Singaporeans who came to lend their support and assistance. At least six people, mostly in the 20s and 30s, came up to the Singapore Democrats and indicated that they wished to help in the effort.

Residents of Bishan also got a taste of the Tak Boleh Tahan! message as the group went around the coffee shops to hand out flyers and sell other party publications. Many indicated surprise over the enormous sums the ministers were paying themselves.

"Read and see how much the ministers pay themselves while they keep jacking up your cost of living!" announced the helpers.

"Yah, all they want us to do is to pay and pay!" replied one coffee-shop patron.

The campaign is picking up steam on two fronts: More and more young Singaporeans are stepping forward to help the SDP and, as a result, the TBT message is spreading farther and wider.

The SDP has been focusing its efforts in Toa Payoh housing estate and the surrounding areas. We'll press on. Come on, Singaporeans, there's a mountain to climb!

"Many indicated surprise over the enormous sums the ministers were paying themselves."

Hmmm...this goes to show that the ST did not report the figures? I am not sure cos i dont ever read the Shit Times ever since i came to know that it is a propoganda machine.

At least the citizens know about this now. Slowly but surely, people will see the truth. Glad that it worked and glad that no LEEgime 'mata' came to disrupt the campaign.

Jia you!

I cannot agree with the SDP aligning itself with the looney left protesting against the G8 as a matter of ideology.

The SDP should focus its attention to local policies as in the TBT campaign. As you have indicated from your campaign, there is a large swarth of discontent amongst Singaporeans with regards to the lack of political freedom, economic transparency of the state enterprises, the apparent "profiteering" of the PAP government to feed its many subsidaries and ventures.

I am in wholehearted support of the grassroots movement you are spearheading, especially among the young. Now that you have some momentum, you should continue nonstop 24/7 in active recruitment and engage the PAP at every level, whether be it social, political or economic. The day you have the coffeshop ah-sos and ah-peks firmly behind you is the day that PAP tyranny will end.

I could remember you had a column on your old website detailing all the broken promises of the PAP. Could you republish them in a table again on this website.

To SDP :

The fact that people are still unaware of ministers' super high salaries also highlight the probability that these Singaporeans are also unaware of many other dirty issues about PAP.

I strongly suggest that you promote your website the next time you hold public activities.

Educate the public. Empower the people to vote wisely. Expose the truth about PAP.

Aiyoh Uncle, just because they publish it doesn't mean they are with it lor. I think the point is to show that there is activism in Singapore, that activism is not dead. Not whether they agree or not.
EDMWer  -     Sun, 06 Jul 2008 3:42 pm
That should be the way of campaigning.

Talk about issues that are related to majority of Singaporeans..that affects their living standards.

With the rise in everything and anything, i'm surprised that most of singaporeans choose to keep quiet.

Wondering any ministers sympathies the lower income group that are struggling to feed themselves.

Other then creating awareness on the PAP-regime. Do continue to bring out the positive aspects of what SDP could do for Singapore. That'll garner even more support from fellow Singaporeans.

This Man In The Mirror is 危険人物 要注意
With words like "I STRONGLY SUGGEST..." - man, do we need another STRONGMAN style politics in Singapore?

[size=large]Stop imposing your ideas the way PAP has been dictating to us - it's clear you've been brainwashed into even talking like the Old Man, and it's people like you, people of the 'past', people of your generation (who helped propel PAP into absolute power) that we do not need.

And we want to rid this land of all that's bad about the past! Including, yes, YOU!

Not just PAP - but PAP-ised people like YOU! Who talk like the PAP, sound like the PAP, think like the PAP, Uncle.

SCRAM, go hide inside your PCF kindergarten preschool center
- before we come after you and banish you to Pedra Branca for re-education camp!!!

Go REFLECT on your thinkings, your speeches, Man In The Mirror! Go, shoo, disappear~

Talk, talk, talk - don't even see you 'suggest' to youself to appear in person at TBTs to lend support - go sink back into your armchair lah, Uncle Ah Pek!

I hope in the next election the Opposition will be able to contest in at least 80% of the seats. All this while Opposition have been giving free seats to the PAP. These PAP goons think they are popular with the people when the fact is they are not.

It's been said before. Many Chinese S'poreans do not have a particularly good command of English and are more comfortable with Chinese. That is a fact of life. Neglecting their needs prevents this very important part of the electorate from making fully informed choices.

No surprise then that some citizens continue to live in blissful ignorance that the PAP are paying themselves obscene sums and running the nation like a fiefdom.

If the SDP wishes to reach out to them, then it is essential that this website be also available in Mandarin and/or Pinyin.

May I suggest that you have a TRANSLATE button prominently displayed? If SDP lacks the resource to do the translation in-house, then an interim step would be to make Google's free translation service available via a simple link.

It would also be helpful if your video clips are silmilarly subtitled.

Otherwise, this fine political party lies in danger of remaining a party for the English-educated middle classes with all the divisiveness that implies.

Cool! I'm glad all went smoothly this time round.. without any police interference. .:)
Guess the government has learnt that by interfering and reporting, they are only giving themselves bad publicity..

Your tireless efforst are indeed marvelous!

Regrettably, Stinkaporeans under the Lee Regime will never wake to realise the life they are living under this regime - being sucked and manipulated to mere morons!

Just look at NDP- being made to use at POOR CITIZEN'S expense BUT all for the glory of the PAP JUNTA sitting and watching and thence to a grand sumptious dinner at our expense in honour of glorified President w/EXECUTIVE POWERS!

I don't think the SDP was endorsing the anti-G8 protest yesterday.

Besides, calling the anti-G8 activists 'looney left' makes you look ignorant.

Do you know why more and more people are getting angry over the G8? Or even what neo-liberalism or market fundamentalism is and their associated problems?

Right. It was merely reporting that that there was such a protest - for we would never know (or know too late) if we merely depended on state media.

But some people just aren't able to discern, going away thinking that since it was featured on this website, then SDP must be 'the evil mastermind behind' it, haha.

Let's just open our eyes wide and big, do simple things like checking the picture(s) again and ask: Are there any SDP people in there, especially Juan?

Singaporeans, under PAP rule for 43 years, have become as... unbecoming (for want of a better word) as their rulers themselves - the assumptive type, never-I-the-wrong (which is the reason Singaporeans are getting a very bad reputation overseas, especially among our neighbors).

And yes, G8 is the granddaddy-protector of 'globalization', 'globalism', 'rich-getting-richer', all that's so wrong with the global economy right now (of top 1% richest controlling 99% or near 100% of world resources, which is why YOUR LIFE as well as MINE is getting so MISERABLE by the day.).
