Civil Disobedience Print

Two acts of civil disobedience in the twentieth-century history of the United States: In the 1920s much of the population decided to ignore the constitutional prohibition on alcohol consumption, and in 1980s they decided to ignore the 55-mile-per-hour speed limit.

Their decisions ultimately destroyed those restrictions, which failed because the cost of enforcement especially surveillance, was incompatible with a free society.
