Singapore Democrats
We had decided to contest the
by-election in Punggol East because of the following factors:
(1) A set of alternative policies that we
wanted to present to the voters.
(2) A candidate who would have a strong
chance of defeating the PAP candidate.
(3) A well-organised party machinery to
run a highly effective campaign.
However, we have decided to withdraw
from the race. Singaporeans have signaled clearly that they do not
want to see a three-cornered contest in Punggol East which may dilute
the vote and allow a PAP win. We hear their voices and we have heeded
them.
In politics, it is equally important to
listen as it is to speak. We note the genuine concern that the PAP
may get returned if there is a split in the opposition's support
between the SDP and WP. For this reason, we are stepping aside.

Bravo SDP, your withdrawal has helped to secure an additional seat for the opposition. Voters will take heed of your wise gesture and respond in kind in GE 2016.

I salute your party for withdrawing from by-election. At least you don't confuse the voters and dilute the votes. I will continue to support SDP and I am now even more confident with your party because you guys are a group of smart wise men!!!

Least gives WP the full ownership in Punngol East, as if it did fail to win, it is bec of it's own strategy, party an candidate. No One else and no excuses again of vote dilution as with Palmer's situation it for WP to prove they are the best less 2 other parties who are not sunk in PE with voters. if they win, all the best.

Hope SDP will work with The Reform Party to be guest speakers at their rallies. It will be a win-win which will add weight to their events and also for SPD to espouse their alternative policies on health and education etc to fix PAP govt's wayward policies.

this decision by chee soon juan to bring shame and disrepute to the sdp is a clear signal that it is time for the other cadres in sdp to kick him out of the party. as long as chee thinks he has the backing of international human rights group to stage all this nonsense, sdp will go to the dogs. and this is just the beginning. and there are reports that there was a no confidence vote within the sdp to kick chee out. this is the way to go! kick the fellow out soonest

The real winner is Dr Chee and SDP. By stepping aside, you have virtually contributed to a crucial win for WP- which will add another voice in Parliament. Punggol East is more aligned to Hougang and Aljunied GRC. Your co-operation in this BE will go down well and rewarded in 2016. Please start working the ground for 2016.

Dear Dr Chee & Team, I have follow somewhat the happening of this coming by election & e interest of your Team to contest, many comments and voices follow BUT to my observation, you have both caught the whole media as well the Singapore populace and pple by surprise and why not? perhaps they are all wanting to see your cards and say what you may, YOU AND YOUR TEAM decide what is best for SDP and not for anyone else to say and by pulling out is nothing to loose "face" if any at all, instead for the greater good of Singapore and for Sg pple...frankly, I salute you and while m just an ordinary individual, your bravery and your action is a card well play, after politic is nothing to shy of changing tactics as the ground move and who doesn't do that? MIWs is so frequent to say something and doing some different from their saying, and yes man,I SALUTE U AND YOUR TEAM SIR!

SDP - your heard the ground. The right step towards victory has been taken by your party. There is no doubt that SDP has many good individuals who are prepared to sacrifice for the common good of the nation. In this instance, the defeat of PAP seems to be the over-riding objective. You have played your part well. Thank you SDP
