Conference follow-up meeting on SSID

Following the successful International Youth Conference for Democracy that was recently held in Singapore, the Young Democrats are calling for a meeting among the conference particpants to discuss plans for the Sweden-Singapore Initiative for Democracy (SSID).

At the conference, the delegation from Sweden had held discussions with their Singaporean counterparts to continue their cooperation to promote democracy in Singapore. The idea of the SSID was proposed and both parties agreed to work on a program to plan for future projects.

The meeting will be held at 1357A Serangoon Road and participants will be asked to take the lead to come up with a program to provide Singaporeans with meaningful opportunities to be involved with the process of building democracy in this country.

The fact that the meeting will take place on 9 August at 3 pm is added significance as there is no better time to talk about democracy in Singapore than on National Day.

The SSID has been designed to focus on the following areas: the election system, media, civil society, youth program, human rights and labour in Singapore.
