CJ relents

Following Dr Chee Soon Juan’s letter to Chief Justice Yong Pung How on 16 September (see article ‘Chee writes to CJ over shocking incident’), the Democrats’ secretary-general received a reply from the Registrar a few hours later (see letter below).

I refer to your letter dated 16 September 2004 addressed to the Chief Justice who has referred the letter to the Registrar.

2. The Registrar has sought the direction of the presiding judge, Justice Kan Ting Chiu and his Honour has directed that parties attend before him on Thursday 30 September 2004 at 10 am in Open Court for you to make your application to recall the plaintiffs to the stand for cross-examintaion. In the meantime, his Honour has also directed that the requirement for you to file your submissions by 20 September 2004 will be held in abeyance pending the 30 September 2004 hearing.

3. For all future communications, you should copy it to the plaintiffs’ lawyers, Drew and Napier LLC.
