Dear Sir,
I would like you to provide Singaporeans with the reason for banning Mr Yeshua Moser-Puangsuwan from entering Singapore on 13 May 2005. Mr Moser-Puangsuwan, an instructor from Nonviolence International, was to conduct a workshop on non-violence in Singapore. He was deported when he arrive at Changi Airport without a stated reason.
Was he a potential terrorist? Was he suspected of being involved in drug trafficking activities? Was his activity in Singapore going to be one that was illegal? Without a satisfactory reason, the Government cannot turn away visitors who have a legitimate reason to come to Singapore.
You have also banned the workshop which the Sweden-Singapore Initiative for Democracy had tried to organise in Singapore on 14-15 May 2005. Again no reason was given.
Please let me have the reasons for the above acts. Otherwise, you will reinforce the view that the Government is intent on continuing its autocratic ways, and give us even more reason to embark on non-violent action in Singapore.
Sincerely,
Chee Soon Juan
Workshop Coordinator
