Police and pro-democracy activists in Singapore are facing off over an illegal protest in the city-state today.
Six protesters are trying to march through the city streets and past the venue for the IMF World Bank meeting to demand the right to freedom of assembly and freedom of speech.
But police are preventing them from moving because outdoor gatherings of more than five people are illegal in Singapore without a permit.
Pro-democracy advocate Chee Siok Chin is among the protesters.
“They won’t let us move, they won’t let us march but yet they are afraid to arrest us,” Chee Siok Chin said.
“So right now, we are just standing, standing here, and there’s a stand-off here.”
