Indonesia’s former ruling party the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) will not ratify the extradition treaty and military cooperation agreement with Singapore, a party executive said Saturday.

PDIP senior member Sutradara Ginting said trading extradition treaty with access to military training ground for Singapore was really unfair for Indonesia.

“I cannot find any other country gets extradition treaty in exchange for that kind of military agreement,” he was quoted by leading news website Detikcom as saying.

He insisted that extradition and military agreements be discussed separately.

“I don’t understand why we grant them (Singapore military) permit to use our territories,” he said.

PDIP ruled the country in the wake of the post-Soeharto era in 1999, but it lost to long-serving Golkar Party in the 2004 election.

Its chairperson, former president Megawati Soekarnoputri, chose to put the party on the opposing side of the government since the election
