IBA Rule of Law Symposium and parallel forum

The International Bar Association (IBA) is holding its 2007 Annual Conference in Singapore from 14-19 Oct 07. Among some of the topics that will be discussed is the rule of law.

A parallel forum originally planned to be held on the evening of 17 Oct 07 (Wed) to highlight the lack of the rule of law in Singapore has been canceled.

Instead, we encourage Singaporeans to attend the IBA’s Rule of Law Symposium on 19 Oct 07, (Fri). The Symposium will take place at the Suntec City and will last through the entire day. It will include plenary sessions as well as break-out discussions to help participants “formulate concrete plans for action” to strengthen the rule of law.

In addition, the Symposium’s interactive format will also highlight the importance of the rule of law to business.

Speakers representing the Singapore Government are Mr S Jayakumar, DPM and Minister for Law, and Mr Tommy Koh, Ambassador-at-Large. They are expected to talk about the “Singapore experience” and the “Asian perspective” of the rule of law.

Registration is open to the Singaporean public. A fee of £60 (approximately $180), which will include lunch and coffee breaks, is required. To register, please click here.
