A newly formed group, Sg Human Rights, is organisng a public forum to urge ASEAN to take “concrete steps” to promote human rights in the region.
Held on the even of the summit (18 Nov 07, Sun) the forum will also take aim at the Burmese delegation by condemning the brutal regime of its crackdown on Burmese monks and peaceful protesters.
Entitled “ASEAN People Want Human Rights Now!”, the forum is inviting not only Singaporeans but also the Burmese community, ASEAN nationals, and people from around the world.
It wants participants to wear red in support of the Burmese people.
The group’s website also reports that human rights advocates from the region have been invited to speak at the forum.
