Asia’s publishers invite Chee Soon Juan to speak at awards ceremony

Dear Dr Chee,

As Chairman of the 2008 SOPA (Society of Publishers in Asia) Awards for Editorial Excellence, organized by the Society of Publishers in Asia, I would like to extend an invitation to you to speak at the Society’s annual awards presentation dinner on June 4, 2008, at the JW Marriot Hotel In Hong Kong.

The SOPA Awards for Editorial Excellence is one of the most visible and respected journalism awards in Asia. The Society of Publishers in Asia, now in its 26th year, is a Hong Kong-based group that represents Asia’s free press, including regional and local publications such as the International Herald Tribune, Financial Times Asia, Wall Street Journal Asia, Business Week, Forbes, Newsweek, Time Asia, Sing Tao, Ming Pao, Apple Daily, South China Morning Post and the Asia Tatler titles.

Previous speakers at our annual event have included Anson Chan, the former Chief Secretary of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Anwar Ibrahim, the former Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister, Hu Shuli, editor-in-chief of Caijing Magazine of Beijing, Goenawan Mohamad, founding editor of Tempo (Indonesia), and Ruth de Aquino, President of the World Editors’ Forum.
