Singapore’s consumer price index (CPI) in March rose at an annualized rate of 6.7 percent, the highest recorded in 26 years, as food, housing and energy costs surged, data from the Department of Statistics showed on Wednesday.

The figure was slightly below Thomson IFR’s average estimate of a 6.8 percent increase but higher than February’s 6.5 percent rise and January’s 6.6 percent jump.

Compared to the previous month, CPI was down 0.1 percent in March but on a seasonally-adjusted basis, it was up 0.3 percent. ($1 =S$1.34)
