The SDP will use the Internet technology to videocast “live” its Tak Boleh Tahan! campaign from Toa Payoh Central this May Day.
This is the first of its kind attempted in Singapore where a political party will use cyberspace to communicate with the public while the event is in progress.
The Singapore Democrats will be at Toa Payoh Central beside the Community Library this Thursday, 1 May, to rally support for its campaign against the unbearable increase in the cost of living in Singapore.
We will be at the venue from 11 am to 6 pm distributing flyers and raising awareness among the people about their right to demand that the PAP Government do something to ease the hardship caused from rising prices.
We will also encourage Singaporeans to sign a petition calling for economic justice including rectifying the abomination of the Ministers’ salaries reaching stratospheric levels while workers’ wages remaining buried six-feet underground.
Tak Boleh Tahan! t-shirts and buttons will be on sale as well as Dr Chee Soon Juan’s books.
In short, there is no excuse for Singaporeans like yourselves not to make your way down to Toa Payoh this Thursday to lend your voice and a helping hand in our effort to speak up for the people.
We hope to videocast the goings-on of the event every hour on this website and use it to encourage even more Singaporeans to join us in Toa Payoh.
We need all the help that we can get as we intend to visit the coffee shops there to interact with the residents in order to understand better their plight and let them know that the SDP will speak out for them. We will also be doing house-to-house visits.
Over and above the videocast, we will also attempt to use the latest networking technology to allow our members and helpers to communicate directly with Singaporeans.
Twitter.com is a site that carries messages which can be posted from mobile phones via SMS messages. Readers can then read these messages online. We will make available the technology on this website and explain to you how to use it.
Again this will be the first time that a political party is employing state-of-the-art Internet technology to bypass the PAP-controlled media which have blacked out news about the SDP and our activities.
We will combine conventional grassroots campaigning with advanced cyberspace technology to more effectively bring our message to the people.
All in all, Thursday will be a meaningful and historic occasion in our quest to bring democracy to Singapore and to speak up for our fellow citizens.
So please keep your day free and come down to the event. It’s a short walk from the HDB Hub bus interchange and the Toa Payoh MRT Station.
Come and meet SDP’s leaders and friends. Bring along your relatives and friends as well as your Tak Boleh Tahan! experiences. We’d like to hear from you because this campaign is about you and for you. Unlike the PAP we want to make this change bubble from the ground up.
Be a part of this exciting endeavour and send this message to everyone you know by clicking on the email button at the top right. Witness first hand how an active citizenry can work and how you can do your part to bring much needed democratic change to our nation.
See you on Thursday!
