At 9:30 am yesterday, Dr Chee Soon Juan walked out of Queenstown Remand Prison to campaign another day for the liberation of our repressed society. Besides friends and support, he was greeted by his wife, three children and sister, Ms Chee Siok Chin, who was released from Changi Women’s Prison a day earlier.
Dr Chee was sentenced to 12 days imprisonment by Judge Belinda Ang during his recent cross-examination of Mr Lee Kuan Yew and Mr Lee Hsien Loong in a defamation suit brought by the Lees over his comparison between the governance of Singapore and that of the scandalized National Kidney Foundation.
Hugging his son tightly, a determined Dr Chee said that no amount of persecution will dissuade him from bringing democracy to Singapore—not even the bad haircut given by the prison.
