Singapore Airlines has just recorded another year-on-year load factor drop in July, seeing the carrier unable to attain even one month’s load factor growth, despite strong passenger growth.
In July the load factor dropped another 1.1% to sit at 81% despite passenger growth of 3.6%.
An abundance of capacity has been the leading cause to these figures with the carrier declaring, “The year-on-year increase in capacity follows the delivery of a number of new aircraft in recent months.”
“[Also] the deployment of the larger A380, in place of the B747-400s, on the London, Sydney and Tokyo routes also contributed to the capacity increase,” it adds.
“East Asia and West Asia and Africa route regions recorded declines due to new capacity introduced to these regions not yet being fully met by traffic growth,” the carrier admits.
Capacity had been added to a whole range of destinations in Europe, the Pacific, East Asia, Americas and West Asia & Africa.
June recorded year-on-year load factor decrease of 3.2% to 79.2%.
Singapore Airlines’ last year-on-year load factor increase was December 2007 with a 0.3% increase to 84.3%.
Currently Singapore airlines operates a fleet of 103 aircraft, five of which are Airbus A380-800s. SIA still has 14 A380-800s on firm orders.
