5 Nigerian State govts on investment drive to Singapore

The governments of Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Jigaw a and Kwara states in Nigeria will participate in the maiden Nigeria/Singapore Business Forum and Country Competitiveness Mission, holding in Singapore 17-21 August, the privately-owned This Day newspaper reported Sunday.

The forum, the paper said, will afford participants the opportunity to scout for investments.

According to the paper, Singapore possesses incomparable strengths in key industries that include energy, information and communication technology, biomedical sciences, electronics and precision engineering, aviation, and banking and finance among others.

The five-day business forum, according to the organizers, Cognitus Consul-ting in association with the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), will dra whigh-level participants from both the public and private sectors.

The paper said that the Minister of Commerce, Chief Achike Udenwa, would lead the Nigerian delegation to the business forum, which target sectors include oil and gas, maritime, ports and logistics, education and manpower, development, tourism and hospitality, information and communication, water resources, health services, banking and finance and housing/real estate development.

The Executive Secretary of NIPC, Mustafa Bello, will present a paper on â?Redis covering Destination Nigeria: Investment and Business Opportunities in Nigeriaâ? while the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Communication Commission, Ernest Ndukwe; the Director General (DG) of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Harold Demuren; DG, Nigeria Maritime and Safety Administration, Roland Omatseye; DG,

Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe and the Managing Director, Nigeria Export Free Zones Authority, Sina Agboluaje, have been lined up as facilitators at the forum.

The forum will include a special session on environment, housing and urban development and water resources by the Minister of State for Works, Housing and Urban Development, Mrs. Grace Ekpiwhre, while the Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Sanusi Barkindo, will unveil investment opportunities in the oil and gas sector in Nigeria.

As part of activities lined up for the forum, there will be visits to major firms and institutions in Singapore, among them the Jurong Rock Cavern, Jurong Islan, Singapore Petroleum Company, Energy Market Authority of Singapore, Singapore Maritime Academy, Singapore Ports, Singapore Tourism Board and Seletar Aerospace Park.
