Four vocational schools in Ho Chi Minh City have teamed up with advisers from Singapore aimed at developing curricula reflecting high Singaporean standards.
It follows plans outlined last November by the Singapore Polytechnic (SP) School to help local schools build Mechatronics (Mechanical-Electronics Engineering) and Information Technology courses.
Phu Lam Technical Economics College, Thu Duc Technical and Vocational School, South Sai Gon Technical and Vocational School and Nguyen Huu Canh School began working with the Singaporeans a year ago.
In all, 80 students are expected to enroll in special courses at each school by next month, said Truong Van Hung, Phu Lam School vice principal.
It follows local teachers, assigned to teach the classes, having all taken methodology courses at the Singaporean school.
Now, if the program proves a success it’s set to be expanded to other local vocational schools.
The Temasek Foundation, a Singaporean non-profit charity organization, has pledged $1.15 million in funding for the program.
