Singapore “needs English teachers”

Teach English Abroad

With unemployment rates in the UK still high, former university students looking for international experience could teach English in Singapore.

The country currently has a high demand for those with TEFL qualifications, according to its education minister Dr Ng Eng Hen, who believes that more citizens need to be able to speak English.

“At the basic level, those who can communicate their ideas to market their ideas and products or convince others, will have an edge over others,” reported the minister as saying.

Clearer and more effective communication would be needed for tomorrow’s businessmen to succeed, he added.

By taking up a TEFL course, young people could aid the country in reviving its system of teaching English, helping children to improve their job prospects and potential quality of life when they are older, it was suggested.

People planning to move abroad and teach English in nearby South Korea may also be interested to learn that lenders in the country are increasingly targeting expats, the Korea Times recently reported.
