Singapore arrested eight people and jailed one within four days of opening its first casino, the Straits Times newspaper reported.

A 49-year-old Indonesian man was jailed for four weeks after he lost S$1,000 at the city-state’s Resorts World Sentosa casino and was later caught stealing a mobile phone at Changi Airport, the Times said, citing court proceedings. Two Mongolian men, aged 45 and 18, were arrested for allegedly using the wrong passport for the younger man to gain entry, the Times said, citing Singapore’s Casino Regulatory Authority. The minimum age for admission is 21.

The other five people arrested were Singaporeans who tried to get in without paying the S$100 ($71) entry fee imposed on locals, the Times said, citing the CRA. They may be fined as much as S$1,000, the newspaper said.
