TopNews.usVivian Balakrishnan, Singapore’s Community Development, Youth and Sports Minister has stressed that there is an urgent requirement to get more qualified individuals to become eldercareprofessionals as the country’s populations starts to age.
He asserted that Singapore will soon face an acute shortage of such professionals.
“In 20 years from now, one in five of us will be 65 and above… that includes me too. Singapore is probably the second fastest-aging society in Asia”, he said. The thoughts were shared by the Minister at a graduation ceremony which was held for participants who had been trained in Senior Services under the Work Skills Qualifications in Community and Social Services.
The program is undertaken by Hua Mei Training Academy, a Continuing Education and Training (CET) centre which has been appointed by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA).
Certificates and diplomas were received by as many as 110 people, raging from the ages of 19 to 64, who had completed their training. As many as 14 of the individuals completed the Professional Conversion program.
With Singapore’s population now aging, there is a dire need of more professionals who would take care of eldercare.
