Singapore Democrats
We know you are angry. We know you want change. But change will not happen if we just write or talk about it. Change will only come if we act on it. Tomorrow at Hong Lim Park you can make change happen. You have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make change a reality.
Every four or five years, we get a chance to vote the opposition into parliament. But that chance is wasted every time. Why? Because Singaporeans don’t get involved in the campaign.
Singaporeans sit back and watch the political battle from the sidelines. As long as this happens, nothing will change.
The stakes at this coming elections are high, nothing less than your future and your children’s future is on the line. The PAP is intent on forcing up our population to 6.5 million! In the process you, the ordinary folk, are going to be the ones to pay the price of an island unable to cope with the overload.
We need to stop this madness. We need to send a clear and unmistakable “No to 6.5 million” message to the PAP. And you can do this by coming to the rally tomorrow. Make your own placards and signs to let the PAP know of your unhappiness at the immigration policy. Turn up in red, the SDP’s colour.
But more than that, come and contribute to our election funds or sign up as campaign helpers. Tell your friends about us and the work the SDP is doing, and get them to attend this historic rally. Tell them that they need to get involved in this elections. This is how democracy works.
We have an exciting line-up of speakers who will touch on the pressing problems that confront our society today. More important, they will highlight the party’s alternative proposals.
There are also many of the SDP’s publications for sale. Our 30th Anniversary magazine with all the never-before seen photographs will be on sale. Dr Chee Soon Juan’s A Nation Cheated and his other books will also be available.
And remember our newspaper whose licence was delayed by the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts for more than three months? Well it’s finally out! The first copies of The New Democrat will be on sale at the rally. Get a copy and see what the PAP is so reluctant to let you read.
The word is out that the elections will be held in December. This gives us less than three months to get prepared for the actual campaign. We can’t do it alone. We need you, our friends and supporters, to put your shoulders to the wheel with us and to heave mightily. We must check the PAP and bring back some sanity to our social and economic policies.
The truth is that Singaporeans cannot afford not to have an opposition – a competent, constructive, and compassionate opposition – in Parliament. Our very future depends on what we do now.
When was the last time we could gather like this before an election? Now that we have the opportunity, let us not squander it again. We have but a small window in which to bring about change. If we miss this opportunity, the next one may never come.
Don’t just attend the rally tomorrow. Come and be a part of it. It may be your only chance to get inviolved.
