Mr Anwar, leader of the Parti KeAdilan Rakyat (People’s Justice Party), has been a long-time advocate and fighter for democracy in Malaysia. He was acquitted by the country’s High Court after a lengthy trial. The SDP has maintained good relations with PKR and is looking to strengthen ties as both parties seek to establish democracy in our countries.

Leader
Parti KeAdilan Rakyat

Dear Dato Seri,

On behalf of the Singapore Democratic Party, allow me to extent my heartiest congratulations to you on your acquittal of the charges brought against you. It is testimony  to your strength and resilience in fighting for the truth and for freedom in Malaysia.

Your legal victory once again emphasizes the indispensability of an independent judiciary when it comes to establishing democracy and the rule of law. Malaysia continues to make great strides on the road to freedom and your courageous leadership inspires many.

Like you, we in Singapore continue to fight for the fundamental freedoms that underpin a democratic system. Like you, we are also in the midst of fighting our legal battles, trying to persuade our courts to uphold the constitutrional rights of Singaporeans and to respect the universal human rights of our people.

We drive on in the belief that one day such rights will be reclaimed by our peoples and we look forward to the day when Singapore and Malaysia can join the international family of democracies and enjoy the rights and responsibilities that freedom brings.

Again, congratulations on your victory and we wish you well in the upcoming elections in your country.

Sincerely.

Jufrie Mahmood
Chairman
Singapore Democratic Party
