Aung San Suu Kyi
Leader
National League for Democracy
Burma

Dear Daw Aung San Suu Kyi,

It is with much joy that we read of your party’s string of by-election victories. They are testament to your leadership and that of your fellow democrats who never wavered in your belief that freedom will triumph over tyranny.

Your entry into parliament is a giant step towards bringing Burma into the international family of democracies where all dine at the table of freedom and where no one is imprisoned for speaking out. We look forward to the day when all of Southeast Asia, including my country Singapore, will be free and democratic.

On behalf of the members of the Singapore Democratic Party, please accept my heartfelt congratulations on the people’s victory. May your wisdom and fortitude continue to bring progress and happiness to all in Burma and, indeed, throughout the world.

Yours in solidarity,

Chee Soon Juan
Secretary-General
Singapore Democratic Party
