Women deal better with broken hearts, they are less likely to die in a car crash, give clearer directions (and not afraid to ask for them too!), make better investments and have more accurate memories. So says American television host and best-selling author, Dan Abrams!
However, the one thing women seem to be lacking is taking care of themselves. Oprah Winfrey noted that “after taking care of everyone else, [women] are always putting themselves last.” This is a form of self-abuse.
Women often wear their exhaustion as a badge of honor. They believe that it’s okay to become a ‘sacrificial lamb’ in their own families.” In neglecting themselves, they often neglect others around them too.
In this modern age, much demand is placed on women: homemaker, career woman, and caregiver. No wonder they are exhausted and unable to take care of themselves.
This is why the SDP’s Women Democrats (WD) are organising a healthtalk for women on Sunday, 1 July 2012. The SDP’s healthcare panel will be on hand to provide advice for women to help them find the balance they need to create the optimal environment for themselves and those around them.
Drs Ang Yong Guan and Tan Lip Hong as well as other health experts will be speaking on women’s mental health and other commom ailments that affect women in Singapore. The talk will also focus on the importance of diet (as opposed to dieting) and exercise.
One of the WD’s objective is to open up the political arena for women and to increase their participation in politics, especially the opposition. Ultimately we would like to see more women members of parliament. This is possible only if women have a healthier and more balanced approach in life.
All are welcome and admission is free. There will be free door gifts for the first 50 attendees. So pencil in the date and join us on 1 July.
