SDP writes to Education Ministers to speak to students

Singapore Democrats

The SDP has written to the Ministers for Education following the rejection by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary of our request to speak to students. The SDP feels that it is important for our students to learn about multiple perspectives on national issues.

Ng Chee Meng
Acting Minister for Education (Schools)

Ong Ye Kung
Acting Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills)

Dear sirs,

We wrote to the Ministry of Education (MOE) on 3 February 2016 to request for permission to conduct talks to students in our schools on national issues that concern them.

Unfortunately, the MOE will not accede to the SDP’s request. It is important that in this era our youth are exposed to a diversity of views and opinions to prepare them for life in the 21st century. Presenting multiple perspectives on national issues is universally recognised as a critical element in any modern and forward-looking education process.

As such, I would like to appeal to you to allow us to talk to our students.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.
