Ambalam and Chee trial set for 30 September 2002

The trial involving Mr Gandhi Ambalam and Dr Chee Soon Juan will be take place in the Subordinate Courts (No. 8) at 9:30 am on 30 September 2002. SDP Chairman Mr Ling How Doong will represent Mr Ambalam. Dr Chee will represent himself. Two charges have been brought against Dr Chee and three charges against Mr Ambalam.

1st Charge

Chee Soon Juan, Male 39 years
NRIC No: S1570330Z

Are charged that you, on the 1st day of May 2002, at or about 12.25 p.m.,without satisfactory excuse did willfully trespass upon grounds belonging to the Government, to wit, the Istana, Orchard Road, Singapore, and you have thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 21 (1) of the Miscellaneous Offences (public Order & Nuisance) Act, Chapter 184.

2nd Charge

Chee Soon Juan, Male 39 years
NRIC No: S1570330Z

Are charged that you, on the 1st day of May 2002, at about 12.25 p.m., at the Istana, Orchard Road, Singapore, did attempt to provide public entertainment without a licence issued under the Public Entertainments and Meetings Act (Cap 257), to wit, by preparing to speak at an exhibition-cum-rally at the Istana, and you have thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 19 (1)(a) of the said Act read with Section 511 of the Penal Code (Cap 224).

Are charged that you, on the 1st day of May 2002, at or about 12.25 p.m., at the Istana, Orchard Road, Singapore, did attempt to provide public entertainment without a licence issued under the Public Entertainments and Meetings Act (Cap 257), to wit, by preparing to speak at an exhibition-cum-rally at the Istana, and you have thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 19 (1)(a) of the said Act read with Section 511 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.

Are charged that you, on the 1st day of May 2002, at or about 12.26 p.m., at the Istana, Orchard Road, Singapore, did behave in a disorderly behaviour, to wit, by shouting at the top of your voice and gesticulating with your hands, and you have thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 20 of the Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order & Nuisance) Act, Chapter 184.
