Recent political developments and how they affect the region’s democrats featured prominently in talks between Chee Soon Juan and Hong Kong leaders.
During his five-day visit (12 – 16 March) to the former British colony, the Singapore Democratic Party secretary general met with Hong Kong’s Legco members to exchange views. Prominent among the Legislative Council members were Mr Martin Lee, leader of Democratic Party of Hong Kong and Ms Emily Lau, leader of Frontier.
The highlight of Dr Chee’s visit was the talk he gave to a packed audience at the City University of Hong Kong. Due to overwhelming response, the organisers, Southeast Asia Research Centre of the University, had to change venue to a bigger lecture hall.Following his speech on “The Singapore System: Myth or Model?”, Dr Chee also fielded questions from the floor.
The SDP leader also addressed members of the Foreign Correspondents Club of Hong Hong at a luncheon meeting on Friday (15 March).
During his busy schedule, Dr Chee Soon Juan was also interviewed by CNN and Star TV.
Dr Chee returned to Singapore on Saturday (16 March).
