As we enter into the Year of the Goat, uncertainties abound and the political and economic situation around the world seems far from stable. At times like these, it is the goodwill of people that will bring about peace and compassion to humankind, and it is this goodwill that must prevail over violence, greed and oppression.
The voice of the people must ring loud and clear so that despots and autocrats will take note and shrink from pushing for their own selfish desires. Democracy remains the key and lifeline to the continued well-being and prosperity of us all.
As the Chinese in Singapore celebrate the Lunar New Year, let us all remind ourselves that material riches without spiritual wealth is but a sad reflection of our poverty.
