At about 10:30 am today, Ms Chee Siok Chin stepped out of the prison gates after serving her first jail term of 10 days for contempt of court. She was greeted to a rousing welcome by a group of eager SDP members, supporters and friends who were there since 9 am.

The imprisonment might have taken seven pounds off the already featherweight Ms Chee, but it does nothing to diminish her spirits and sense of purpose in her struggle for justice and democracy in Singapore. If anything, her resolve is rejuvenated toward that end.
