The Singapore Democratic Party views with concern the on-going prosecution of Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Mr Anwar has undergone much tribulation for his struggle to democratise Malaysia. He continues to be a symbol of democracy, not just in Malaysia but throughout Asia.

We look forward to a just outcome in the appeal hearing taking place presently.

As the region develops, democracy must also make progress. Malaysia and Singapore are no exceptions. Our people, locked together in close proximity not just geographically but also culturally and historically, want transparent and accountable political systems. Opposition parties in both countries are working to fulfill the aspirations of our peoples. We look forward to our countries making progress on this front.
