The SDP Annual Futsal Competition 2012 will take place on 27 October, next Saturday, at KickersBay at 69 Balestier Road. The event is primarily aimed at reaching out to youths in Singapore and to engage them on current affairs.$CUT$
Originally scheduled for 22 September, the event was postponed. It features ten teams which will compete for the SDP Challenge Trophy and cash prizes worth $600.
This is the second year the competition is taking place and, if last year’s tournament is any guide, this year’s event will also be a riot. (Stand down, police, that’s just a figure of speech.)
Apart from the competitive spirit in which the games are played, there will also be much fun taking place on the sidelines as members of the SDP and public come together to enjoy the sun and company.
Political parties, including the PAP, have been invited to participate by sending in teams for the tournament.
There will, of course, be exhibition matches featuring Senior and Women Democrats who during the last tournament ran circles around their opponents (but often just ran circles).
Last year saw Drs Ang Yong Guan, Vincent Wijeysingha, Wong Wee Nam, James Gomez, Chee Soon Juan and Ms Chee Siok Chin take a break from politics to enter the footballing arena. The levity will bring some cheer to our national football scene.
Members of the public are welcome to drop by and cheer your favourite team or just to say hello. Let’s give the term political football a new dimension.
