SDP writes to SPC about forum

Singapore Democrats

Mr Patrick Daniel
President
Singapore Press Club

and

Editor-in-Chief
Singapore Press Holdings

Dear sir,

The SDP wrote to you on two occasions (2 December 2014 and 12 December 2014) regarding the possibility of my addressing the Singapore Press Club (SPC). I did this in the hope of discussing with your members the future direction of politics in Singapore.

Unfortunately, we did not receive a reply from you even after repeatedly checking with your secretariat at this email address secretariat@pressclub.org.sg.

I am writing again to see if there is a possibility of my speaking at a forum at the SPC to talk about the aftermath of the recently held general elections and the role the local mass media played in it. Specifically, I would like to address the future of the media as it pertains to providing a more level playing field between the PAP and the opposition as well as how the Newspaper Presses and Printing Act stifles the growth of a free and open media in Singapore.

I look forward to hearing from you. As this matter is of public interest, I would like to make this email available to the public.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.

Chee Soon Juan
Secretary-General
Singapore Democratic Party

[Update]:

Mr Patrick Daniel replied to Dr Chee’s email and said that he would discuss the matter with the management committee of the Singapore Press Club about inviting Dr Chee to speak at one of its forums.

Mr Daniel also said that he never received the earlier two emails the SDP sent. He said that if he had, he’d certainly have brought the matter up with the management committee.
