Protest against arrests in Cuba

The Singapore Democratic Party stands in solidarity with the rest of the democratic world in protesting the recent crackdown of individuals working for democracy and human rights in Cuba.

It is most unfortunate that the Singapore government shares many of the undemocratic traits exhibited by the Cuban regime, namely, the intolerance for dissent and open debate. Singapore has been called the Cuba of Asia for its repressive nature. No Singaporean should take pride in that comparison.

In solidarity with our fellow democracy fighters in Cuba and for the sake of universal values of human rights and human dignity, we appeal to the Cuban government to release those imprisoned without further delay.
