Dr Chee Soon Juan will argue in the Court of Appeal tomorrow, 31 Jul 07, for an extension of time to appeal Judge Belinda Ang’s decision to award summary judgment to Mr Lee Kuan Yew and Mr Lee Hsien Loong in their defamation suit against the SDP.
Dr Chee had applied for a Summons to the Court of Appeal.
Judge Ang had proceeded to hear the plaintiffs’ Order 14 application in Sep 06 despite defence counsel, Mr M Ravi, being ill and medically unfit to attend court.
The Judge had refused to grant the defence a brief adjournment for Mr Ravi to recover. She then met with Mr Davinder Singh, the Lees’ lawyer, in her chambers and awarded the case to the Minister Mentor and the Prime Minister.
Dr Chee will argue that Judge Belinda Ang was wrong in proceeding with the case at the urging of Mr Singh and that her remarks, made in the absence of the defence, were highly prejudicial against the defendants.
The hearing tomorrow starts at 2:15 pm at the Supreme Court.
